true, true.

It was funny because her mom was a KD and her sister a Chi O. She turned down a bid from one of the houses at one school and dropped out at a second school after Gamma Phi had dropped her, even though she had both Chi O and KD left.

She knew what she wanted though...

That is some serious devotion! Wow! When did this happen if you don't mind my asking? Sorry, I've just never heard of someone transferring schools *multiple times* for the sole intention of joining a particular sorority. Not that Gamma Phi isn't worth it

like two years ago! She started out at an out-of-state school and turned down the bid, so she was "stuck" there a year. Went to an in-state school and was dropped by Gamma Phi after second rounds. Dropped out of rush, finished her semester there and transferred to another in-state school where Gamma Phi was doing COB in the spring.

I was shocked when she told me she was transferring again, but she really wanted to be a Gamma Phi and was smart enough to know how rare AI is.

Someone earlier mentioned having it later like Ole Miss. Well, there it falls during mid terms. So, hmm, recruitment party or study for mid term??????? And besides, they only have 9 groups there which makes for fewer parties anyway and shorter days....but it is still tough to do it during school and over 2 weekends....

We stay up late....just be/c we only have 9 NPC groups does not mean we aren't up late! When there are 9 NPC groups and about 900 new members there is lots of work to do to get the house ready and things like that... Oh and recruitment isn't always during Mid-terms. PNMs and actives learn how to take recruitment week in stride and it is all about time management and planning...but that's all I'll say since this thread is about UGA.

We were told at the parent meeting that bid day is on the first day of classes, because the school will not let the girls move into the dorms any earlier. It's just a timing thing. I know from my own daughter that having classes was a great distraction during the day. She told me that she even studied a little before going to the field.

Happily, my neighbor got her first choice. Congrats to Pi Phi for pledging her.

In other hometown news, all three sophomores got bids. That surprised and encouraged me.

On the other hand, one of the group was dropped on 6 party day. Very surprising as she had lots going for her.

No doubt that's what they said at the meeting, but it seems a little implausible. I certainly could be wrong about what I said earlier though.

We're talking about backing it up one day so it's over before classes start? And they're saying that resident life is making the calls about when rush will be?

Maybe you can't get a tuition refund once classes start! LOL!

A friend of mine now has a Kite and Key family. Her UGa daughter just pledged Theta down in Athens.

Be careful what you wish for about having recruitment later. When I was in school at UGA we were on the quarter system and class didn't start to about Sept. 15th and we could never have rush during the Jewish holidays (this was late 1970's). So rush would sometimes start about 2 days AFTER CLASSES BEGIN and you went to classes all day had rush parties at night then had selection sessions to 2 or 4 am in the morning and then have to go to class the next day. Needless to say by the time rush was over you were already a week behind in your classes (not good for the academics). Having said that I like the way UVA does it and have rush before Winter Semester begins that way the girls are adjusted to college life and campus and maybe make better decisions. I'm sure there are other ladies on here that remember these times at UGA because it is true at that time you were given cards that told you what houses you were invited back to and then you decided where to go ( no ranking then). I had forgotten until someone mentioned it, but the houses you decided to cut you could regret or regret with interest which meant if you were cut out of rush you were still interested in those houses.

This article from The Red and Black has a video of Bid Day....as you can see, the new pledges aren't the only ones excited for Bid Day!
