Grad School and the GRE/MAT
I'm considering applying for grad school for Fall 2009.
I'm applying to 2 schools in my area, one of which only accepts scores from the GRE and the other will accept GRE and MAT scores.
Has anyone taken the MAT? Or both tests? What is the difference?
How far in advance, of the application deadlines, or when you were going to submit your application, did you take the GRE/MAT?

Do you mean GMAT? That's the one for business programs. I took it. It includes qualitative & quantitative (basically reading comprehension & math) & a writing portion. It wasn't too bad, and you get a practice test with registration. Most schools require a 450 or 500.
The test snuck up on me. I didn't do a SINGLE BIT of studying & made a 510 (what a blessing!), so you should be fine.

Nope, I mean MAT. I'm actually looking into doing a Masters in Education. One school I'm looking into applying (I'm gonna apply to 2), says they accept both GRE and MAT scores.
I know about the GMAT...my b/f is looking to eventually go for his MBA, and he'll need to take that one.

The MAT ( Miller Analogies Test) is just a bunch of analogies (i.e red:blue as yellow:green) I hear it's a lot harder then the GRE. You only get 60 minutes to answer about a billion questions. Here's the website www.milleranalogies.com They have practice books at like Barnes and Nobel. Why don't you take one of the practice test just to get a feel of the test and then decided which one you want to take before you shell out money.
I haven't taken either test. I'm leaning more towards the GRE. The school that i want to attend accpets both. But my specifc program (Library Science) is only concerend about the reading part and not the math part( good thing for me because I suck at math)
As for how far in advance? I don't know. I just decided yesterday (Saturday) that I going to actually apply to grad school.
Hope this helps.

How curious! My ex-boyfriend needed the PRAXIS for entry to his M.Ed. program. The school didn't ask for the GRE or any other tests.
If I were you, I'd go for the GRE. It's a bit like the SAT, whereas MAT is specialized, as tnxbutterfly noted.

LOL I took the praxis I for entry into the teacher education program.
I'm thinking I'm gonna stick with the GRE. My personal deadline is to have my applications to the two schools I'm applying to submitted by January 1st.

I am applying to graduate programs (also M. Ed.) as a backup to medical school, and almost all of mine require the GRE, if anything. I just registered for it a couple days ago....it doesn't look too terrifying.
