It was so great to see the girls both take home medals with Mary Lou Retton in the building. That was a moment.

I also heard that Nastia is going to SMU this fall. She's probably going to keep training, so she'll most likely be too busy for a sorority. Although Courtney Kupets went AOII at UGA when she went to college after the Olympics, so you just never know!

And Courtney is an AOII legacy. Her mom is an AOII from Indiana State. Courtney's sister Ashley, also an elite gymnast and Gymdog, did not go Greek.

So they were showing the end of the doubles badminton competition. It was Korea (I think) v. China for the gold. I was thinking, why are the Korean players girls and the Chinese players males? I assumed it was because badminton must be like equestrian - one of the few disciplines not separated by gender. Well, WRONG. China won and they announced that they had just won the women's doubles badminton gold. So, the gymnasts are really underage and the badminton players are really men I guess.

That's why DVR is such a beautiful thing! I watched all the good parts this morning in half the time.

Beach volleyball, gymnastics, and swimming (and diving) are my favorite parts of the summer games so I am really happy with the TV line up. Plus, it's all about ratings and those events are the most watched and requested. Track and field events start tonight or tomorrow so those should be in heavy rotation now.

I can see his "anonymous screen name" now: GoldMedalDad! (and I'm thrilled that we have a chapter there!)

I knew it!

I've heard Anastasia pronounced so many different ways: Grand Duchess Anastasia pronounced it the French way (Ann-ah-stah-cee-ah); my ggrandmother pronounced it the American way (Ann-ah-stay-sha). We only know about my ggrandmother because one of the clerks for a record wrote her name as "Anna Station"!

She's so great, telling the referee about the one gal's swimsuit and asking them to wait. The commentators were funny, talking about how much guts that took and I was thinking... well she IS 41, a bit more mature and experienced with life than your average Olympian.

I was so impressed and couldn't agree with you more. You probably wouldn't have seen a 16 year old in her first Olympics having the guts to do that. I think we saw her motherly instinct and her veteran knowledge.

When they were interviewing Dara she said that she was helping the Swedish girl get the new suit on after it had ripped. I like her even more now. Great sportmanship!

Oh Jesus. I just saw the video of the Hungarian weightlifter who dislocated his elbow during his lift. It literally bent inward during his lift. Do NOT watch that video if you have a weak stomach. It was horrible.

I'm pissy that the gymnastics event finals are at 3 am. WTH?
