The interesting flip side to the news release was that The Hummer brand

The Albertsons by my house is at $3.82, yet the Albertsons by the unversity (which is probably 10 miles away) is at $3.77.

Sams is still the cheapest though, its in the low $3.70's.

I paid $4.05 yesterday and, after I left the pump I had this nagging feeling like someone reached into my pocket and ripped me off!!!!!!

This is an interesting story from LA Times:
Soaring costs are squeezing gas station owners too

Dealers say fuel and other expenses are rising so rapidly that they can't keep up.
By Elizabeth Douglass and Ronald D. White, Los Angeles Times Staff Writers
June 10, 2008
Andre van der Valk hasn't been paid in six months.

He has a job, though, as owner of four service stations in Southern California. He hasn't taken a salary this year so he can pour all his money into buying fuel for his stations.
Despite the jaw-dropping prices at the pump -- they jumped 19 cents a gallon in California to $4.43 in the last week and averaged more than $4 a gallon nationwide for the first time, the Energy Department said Monday -- service station owners aren't making the killing that motorists assume.

That's because credit card fees, the price of tanker-loads of fuel and other costs are rising so rapidly that station owners haven't been able to keep pace despite the record prices they're charging.

"People see $4 gas, and they think these retailers are making a fortune," said Ben Brockwell, a director at Oil Price Information Service, which tracks fuel prices. "The reality is these guys are being stressed to the limit."...............................

I paid $3.99 yesterday. That rounds up to $4 so, yes, I have paid $4 a gallon for gas. My credit card receipt brought tears to my eyes.

The pump cut me off at $75 at $3.990, not even 3/4 tank.

I was just coming to this thread to post the same. The pumps around here also cut off at $75 for credit card sales at the pump- so I am spending $75 twice a week for gas now, but have not had a truly full tank in a couple of weeks.

jon1856- Good call posting that article about station owners. They are really getting screwed over in all of this. In addition to the cost increases you reference, demand is actually going down for gas- so they are also making less revenue on a volume basis.

Producers and oilfield services are of course making a killing, but quite a few business lines in the oil/gas industry do not fare well when prices get like this.

Gas was did jump from $3.89 to $4.29 last week, but it's back down to $3.95. I'm going to need a fill up soon so I'm just trying to jump on it at the right time...I feel like I'm rocking back and forth on my toes, playing double dutch.

I was on empty on Saturday, so I had to go to the nearest gas station...and pay $4.09. Needless to say I put in just enough to get me to my destination.

Not yet- 3.91 yesterday, and it was not the cheapest station around.

How about $4.55 for regular?!?! Cost me an arm and leg to fill up.

The good news is my company has offered employees a deal. We can turn in our parking pass for the summer and they will give us a bus pass good for our route to work for the whole summer. I'm definitely leaning towards doing it.
