Crossing my fingers!

Hi, everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself (sort of!) as I hope to be a regular here! You can call me Massie for right now (it’s not my real name, but I don’t want step on anyone’s toes by posting my exact intentions all over the internet!) I am hoping to join as an alumnae initiate. I am planning to contact HQ this week.

I know I’m going to get asked, “Why didn’t you join in college?” Well, the answer is really rather complicated. During high school, I was SO very active in clubs and especially in my local junior women’s club. During the average month, I probably spent at the very least 20 to 30 hours volunteering and participating in club activities along with going to school and working part-time, and to be honest, by the time college rolled around, I was honestly tired. I was ready for a change and a more laid-back existence for awhile. Also, I went from a very small high school to a huge state university, and that was huge culture shock for me. In addition, I had at the time lots of commitments back home, and almost every other weekend was spent traveling back to my hometown. So at the time, I did not feel that it was fair to join any group when I just didn’t have the time or ability to commit to them the way I should. Honestly, if I can’t join something wholeheartedly, then I don’t join at all!

It was quite by accident that I stumbled upon the AI process. I know it can be long and arduous, but I'm willing to make that effort. I have been regretting for many years my decision not to pursue initiation into a sorority, and I humbly hope that it will happen for me! I have been missing for many years the close companionship that I had with the "sisters" of my junior women's club (for high school girls--not adults). I also have missed the natural high of doing something awesome for the community. I know that AI is an honor...and I know that it may not work out, but I have my fingers crossed. If anyone has any advice for me, I would greatly appreciate the help!

There is an alumnae initiate section under "Recruitment" that you should read. Good luck.

Welcome to Greekchat! I see that you have read over everything in the Alumnae Initiate section that was suggested to you and it's very good information. I also wanted to let you know that there are many other great sororities out there besides NPC sororities to join. Have you looked into Beta Sigma Phi or Epsilon Sigma Alpha, they are wonderful organizations that offer the sisterhood/community service aspects that NPC sororities offer as well. There are also many other organizations in your community that offer the aspects you are looking for in a sisterhood as well. Patience is very important while trying to become an Alumnae Initiate of a sorority. Be discrete in the organizations you are looking into, do not post which ones you are pursuing or have contacted. Also, as I'm sure you know, do not post personal information. Good luck and keep us updated.

Then you might want to edit your post in another thread. Discretion is a good idea.
