You read way, WAY too much into things sometimes. I never said anything about tiers.

...the point was that if you are buying the things just to say you have them (i.e. trying to hard to be "fratty") you're a douche.
Thanks for clarifying. Now that re-read your other post I completely understand what you meant.

I sail and use "croakies" - but all of us on the boat quickly fashion them out of electrical tape and attach the ends to our glasses. Not very fratty (not that I'd give a rat's @ss), but certainly practical after losing a few pairs of expensive sunglasses overboard.

But are we now really going to "tier" which outdoor activities are better than others? So only fishing and skiing count? And is that snow skiing or water skiing? Can someone who's kayaking down the rapids in WV wear croakies and not be a douchebag? What about hiking/backpacking in the Appalachians?

Can you only be on a boat with a fishing pole or a ski lift to wear croakies and not be a douche?
that's funny

I don't get what the deal is with croakies either - give me a break, they are a device to keep you from losing sunglasses. Buying designer croakies like VV is STUPID. They give them away free at events! But, that might not be fratty

Truth. Designer croakies are pretty dumb. I've got black Croakies and some Chums.

And to think that I was always taught that those who truly have don't need to constantly remind and rank.

Why, yes. It is so very true. Bless their hearts.

More than that, such action is bad form as is belittling others based on their class status. The American version of noblesse oblige.

With exception for the $72 flame resistant relaxed fit jeans, it's pretty inexpensive. None of the stuff looks "Southern preppy."

These guys will turn anything into a status symbol and a sign of "frattiness" and "Southern preppy."

Mac, I was partly being sarcastic, but if you read other fratties who have responded, you'll see that while YOU may not assign every single thing to what fits fratty style (and therefore is cool), others do, and they're whose goat I'm trying to get. I know yours doesn't need gettin', even if we don't agree at times.

OMR....
you might be correct in comparing the quality of BB to AE, BUTTTTTT......
it doesn't mean that BB or Polo will make you look good. I have clearly seen people wearing very expensive clothes that make them look like hell.

It seems to me that LL Bean and Brooks Brothers are quintessentially classic, (some would say preppy). My dad wore LL Bean, and BB, and husband does too. My own sons wear LL Bean. For women, Talbots and Anne Taylor are always classic and flattering. Maybe Lily Pulitzer insome parts of the country. I live in one of the mega suburbs of So Cal, where juicy sweatsuits and obscenely large and expensive SUVs are de rigeur. (Note, I did not say classy, preppy, or classic!)

I saw Vineyard Vines mens dress shirts at Marshall's yesterday. All I could think was "So not fratty anymore!".
