I thought automatic membership was pretty standard, glad to know it's not.

I'm very active in my undergrad alumni club here in NYC (but not for long), and I want absolutely nothing to do with my grad school. I don't even have my master's degree on my wall.

The University of Alabama: Membership for Joint Donors (Husband & Wife) is a minimum of $65 and $40 for an Individual Donor. Some of the benefits: http://alumni.ua.edu/member.html

The membership scholarships offered to children or grandchildren of graduates is awesome!

undergrad - i pay my dues to my City chapter of the alumni association. i have never been a part of the official national group. i usually write checks directly to the booster club or the fund to the scholarship i support.

grad school - i don't even feel bad saying i've never paid for alumni dues. i might join the association next year to get priority seating during basketball season, though. gotta see how the team does at the tourney this year.

I am a member of the KSU alumni association. Since I joined soon after I graduated, I got a discounted membership rate - $15

Benefits include:

*KSU alumni magazine
*free goodies like mugs, tee shirts, etc.
*email updates about alumni events
*retail, travel, etc. discounts.
*access to the alumni tent area at the Homecoming football game (the only packed game of the year)
*waiver of grad program application fees (didn't have to pay $30 to apply to my grad program)

It's nice to have and doesn't cost alot. I'm also part of the Greek Alumni Chapter which is great.

You get the magazine, discounts on various local stores and national chains, automatic membership into area alumni clubs, access to an online alum site, window decals (woo hoo!), and access to the Rec and Library at Iowa State.

I was an annual member for a few years; I've just gotten lax at remembering to renew it. At some point I'd really like to become a lifetime member, just can't afford it right now.

And holy crap I just noticed I'm quoted in a sig. I don't think that's ever happened to me before.
I got a membership into the Iowa State Alumni Association this year courtesy of the National Cyclone Club. The NCC purchased memberships for all their members that didn't belong to the ISUAA because of the new alumni building that's going up near the athletic department. I'll probably pay annual dues again next year as I'd let mine lapse too.

K, you're just that cool to be quoted.
