For the budget conscience bride: you can save some $ on your cakes. My daughter ordered Italian wedding cake and a chocolate decadence cake in three graduated sizes per cake from Whole Foods, not telling them it was for a wedding. On the day of the wedding, she had a trusted family member pick up and transport the cakes to the wedding venue. Using cake dowels and extra icing, other trusted family members attached the tiers to each other, iced the seams and decorated as the bride wished. We had numerous comments on the cakes and so many declared that it was much more delicious than standard wedding cake. It cost about a third of a standard wedding cake or grooms cake.

I'm pretty sure I'm more excited about cake tasting than dress shopping!

I'm in San Francisco. We'll likely get married either in New England, the Philly Area, or the Southeast. Hopefully we'll get to try cakes everywhere!

I went cake tasting with my cousin when she got married in 2009 and her now husband was out of town. So fun!

I can't believe I missed this when it was originally posted.
When we were planning our wedding, it was in the back of my head to get a TARDIS cake. DH has been a Whovian since he was a little boy, and, while I'd seen some Classic Who while growing up, it was he who really got me into the show.
What stopped us?
(a) We had a relatively small wedding, so the one wedding cake was quite sufficient. (The practical reason.)
(b) Everyone would have assumed it was a groom's cake, and I would not have a groom's cake without a bride's cake. (Yeah, yeah, I know, the "bride's cake" is supposed to be the 4-tier cake coated in white fondant. But I'd have wanted a bride's cake shaped like the starship Enterprise. As Scotty put it, "NCC one seven oh one. No bloody A, B, C, or D." Although support for the warp nacelles might have been problematic...)

Wow I'm flattered! Love to say it was mine, but it was originally my fiance's suggestion. I was hesitant to do it (although it's one of our favorites) but then when I came across it on the web (posted a few pics up) I was sold!
Thank you
