I can't even keep up with the new music today. People look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them, I've never heard of a certain artist that's considered to be popular.

A friend of mine introduced me to her stuff back in August. I've been addicted ever since!

Her whole cd is really great, and if you like her, try Leonna Ness, she's similar and really great, I love her song "chase"

I do have a new obsession. She's still pretty underground (for now)...
Janelle Monae! Going to see her live this weekend!
I'm also listening to a lot of both Jay-Z and Alicia Keys new album.

I might listen, but I don't watch vids anymore. I used to be a big MTV/BET fan, but stopped caring after I was like 16. Ludacris came to my school freshman year of college and, even though I figured it out when he started performing a song I knew, everyone teased me because I didn't know who he was all through the first song because I didn't recognize his face.

CG, I know how you feel, because I just recently found out who that joker was.

Isn't Ginny Owens a Christian singer who's blind...? Or am I thinking of someone else? If that's the lady I'm thinking of, she did a small live show for my company when I was in the Army and gave out free CD's when she left and we all got to meet her - the chaplain liked to get us Christian artists to see to lift our spirits a little bit since we were all the injured kids from Basic. Sorry, OT.

My new favorite obsession is Pela, their cd "anytown graffiti" is amazing ("lost to the lonesome" is a new fave)
also,
check out Andrew Bird.
Here's a link to NPR's all songs considered top cd's of the year, i'm already digging on a bunch of them.

I've been listening to Ray LaMontagne and Bob Schneider a lot recently, thanks mainly to Pandora (though I did get Lamontagne's first cd a couple of weeks ago - awesome stuff).
Other than those guys, my 2007 has been dominated musically by:
The Polyphonic Spree
Silversun Pickups
Doves
Jack's Mannequin
I'm intrigued by the few Feist songs I've heard - some are phenomenal, some I find a little off. I have a similar feeling about The Dresden Dolls
Omaha radio really, really, really blows so I just heard "Ghost of you lingers" from Spoon for the first time yesterday...wow. May have to look into them more. Other bands, that are completely overlooked in Omaha include - The Kooks, Band of Horses, The Shins, Muse, The Fratellis, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, LCD Soundsystem, and pretty much any other "it" band of the year. For a town that's home to Saddle Creek Records (Bright Eyes et al), you'd think they'd be better at this, but they're not...
