Philanthropy water war idea

I was just recently appointed my chapter's philanthropy chair and given the responsibility of creating a philanthropy event. My idea was to have a capture the flag game on our campus's intermural fields with squirt guns and super soakers where several houses both fraternities and sororities are on a team and compete against other teams consisting of Greeks. The event will be entirely greek because i think it will be easier to organize teams by houses instead of dividing dozens of randoms. I was thinking of having all of the proceeds go towards a veterans foundation, but i'm not sure if a mock war would be insulting or not. I'm not sure how much to charge, how to publicize etc. so if you have any suggestions, criticism, or alternate ideas i'd appreciate it.

Thank you,

I think this sounds like fun....a thought or two to add...

How will you know when a team member is "out" by the other team? I can just envision the more "gungho" guy types on the teams just racing to the other side to grab the flag...soak or not.

In paintball types games, you know when a person has been hit (different color paint for each team).

Perhaps each team designs their own shirt on WHITE...and their "weapon" is loaded with a dye of different color...Team A is blue, Team B is red, Team C is yellow, Team D is green, etc, for instance. The dye shows up on the white shirt to show a "HIT".

At the end each team member has a great "tie-dyed" type shirt as a souvenior.

You could issue the white shirts at team registration and they can do the screen of their team...best tshirt as part of the competition.

that was my original idea to add the dye to the teams squirt guns i forgot to mention that. And i was thinking of having several officails around the field making sure everyone is following the rules. and the penalty for being hit would be somthing like five minutes in "jail".

My idea would be somthing like white t-shirts, and colored armbands to indicate which team your on. But the screen printing does sound like a good idea aswell.
I really appreciate this feedback

how many chapters are on your campus?

are you allowing each chapter to sponsor a team, or can teams be made up of members of different chapters and/or many teams within the same chapter?

how many members were you thinking each team should be made of?

often, the key to the fundraising is the entrance fee paid by each participating team, so to raise more $$ you allow more teams to enter.

also, solicit area businesses for monetary donations or items that can be used as prizes. write up an official letter(on ato letterhead) explaining who, what, where, when and why-you might offer to include the name of any business who makes a contribution on the back of the t-shirts-you might even get a business to foot the bill for the t-shirts.

my chapter does a flag football tournament every fall(i am an alumnae) and usually has upwards of 60 some odd teams. i believe that with that many teams it is a single elimination tournament.

Yes maam, we have the best philanthropy on campus every single year... not to be cocky or anything (Cheers for Charity). ADPi always wins it but you guys did win the spirit award this year.

How would you make money doing this? Charge teams an entrance fee? I'm afraid you'd get limited return for a pretty large upfront cost (the supersoakers, different colored dyes, t-shirts.) Maybe opening it up to non-greek teams would then allow you to increase your yield for a good cause.
