Hopefully, there's an end in sight to the strike:

According to the article, we won't find out anything until maybe Tuesday, but I hope the proposition, if fair, is accepted.

I am being totally selfish here, but I want to strike to end soon so that I can see the grand finale of Scrubs!
Oh, and for all the caterers, restaurant workers, etc. that make their living off of "Hollywood". They don't have a strike fund to fall back on!

Yay! The L&O SVU reruns were annoying, especially when they had the nerve to do marathons.
I hadn't seen every L&O SVU in creation but managed to catch up during this writer's strike.

Last week as I was driving home (from somewhere in Nebraska), they were interviewing a writer on NPR. The writer said that on a popular show, a writer can earn as much as $7500 per episode. So for a twenty episode show that's about $150,000/yr. And then they also earn something when the show goes into syndication - I didn't remember that part. He also pointed out that typically a popular show is only around for a few years (maybe 4-5).
ETA: I don't think it's unreasonable for them to want to a bigger chunk of the DVD sales. The stars sometimes make six digits per episode for some of these shows.

Great post, DA. While I might get annoyed when a strike "inconveniences" me (garbage strike, transit strike, nurses strike, teachers strike etc.), I have remember that those employees are merely trying to fairly compensated for their work (and it's work that I would not want to do). In many ways, I take my hats off to those people who do those jobs, because I sure as h*ll wouldn't want to do those jobs. Dirty garbage? Rude passengers? Crazy patients who isht their pants? Foul mouthed bratty kids? UGH. NO THANK YOU.

Oh I get that it's the whole point, but I just can't watch him for hours like I can with the US office. I rented Extras on DVD and it just drives me nuts!
Not to say I don't like it, but I've since fallen for the US office characters and plots in a way that six episode seasons cannot compete with.
Also, since I missed the crazy in this thread, I'm sincerely hope that Taualumna doesn't vote.
After all that right was acquired through the efforts of very UNLADYLIKE women.
The point: Sometimes being proper is not the way to get things done, and will only get you taken advantage of.

Good link, Jen.
It's the effect on people like the guy in the story that are lost in the "big picture" of any strike or work stoppage.
We tend to only hear about the $130K people -- not those on the outside, as well as those in the other trades that are affected by a union or company action.
As I said, nobody really wins in a strike.
At least that's my opinion.

Woot woot on the Big Bang Theory shooting new episodes for next month. I can't believe they can get those out that fast.
Good to know Medium still has some pre-strike episodes, too. I hadn't seen it in the schedule the last couple weeks and I am an avid fan.
