folks asking me about another org's requirement process
"Can you put in a good for me since you talk to them regularly, my name is _______ and I've been wanting to be a member of XYZ since I was a child (insert childhood story), I meet all the requirements, but I don't know if they like me, plus my aunt is an XYZ so I think I know somewhat what to expect"
Urm...I'm not a member of that org, why do you think they'll take my word for it? Why are you telling me, yeah I talk to XYZ but I don't bring up their or my business..*SMH*

I think the above story is more titillating when you let us know that XYZ is really an org that rhymes with Lelta Ligma Leta.

Someone asked me....
"Are you in a sorority?"
I decided to not be snarky that day and explained the difference....
"Whatever they still the same thing...are you in one or not 'cuz I wanna join."
.....yeeeeeaahhhh
OK...and not calling anyone out....Senusret...I told you this one...hehehehehe
How about I went to a party for the coming out of some XYZ sisters.
$5 for Gen Public
$2 for Greeks in 'nalia
I went with 2 of my homeboys, Omega Psi Phi bruhs....
(no they weren't Deltas BTW....hehehe ...don't infer from the Omega reference!)
we got to the door...they paid and went in...
The young lady (neo soror) charged me $5
"But it says $2 for Greeks"
long slow stare as I see her trying to translate my letters
" I didn't know the Ques changed thier colors "
"They didn't."
"But aren't you a Que?"
"No."
"Then what are you?"
My Omega friends and I are cracking up at this point...but I am still no closer to getting in....heh.
"Read my Jacket"
"Phi....wait...he's not a Sigma because that's an "O" ...Omega?... Patti (I have to change the names to protect the innocent and I don't remember them anyways but you know where this is going....) What letter is O in the alphabet?
" Huh? O is O!"
"No in the Greek alphabet?"
"Girl! I don't know...that's not important! I gotta run and find the DJ!"
( The Dj was an hr and a half late but that is another story!)
"Sir, I don't think I can let you in unless you pay regular admission, because you aren't a regular Greek..."
We are falling out laughing by now...and just then two of their sorors (one my sands) comes in and wonders why we holding up the line.
They explain what's going on and their sorors more or less tells them to stop BSing around, let me in, and for the hassle, let me in for free, and when they complain about not getting my loot, they tell them well whose fault that you can't read my letters?
Someone says...don't blame them, blame their dean.

Right!
DS, you are not aging yourself (LOL), but before the internet age there was this thing called the library that had books and I am not sure since I am not a dinosaur, but I think the alphabet were in books or at least carved into a slab somewhere.
LOL......Just kidding. But seriously.....NO EXCUSE for her not knowing.

He really isn't aging himself. The internet wasn't widely used by damn-near-everyone even in the mid to late 1990s. So that would include me as one of the people who was 20 before I discovered that this mess existed.
We were given the Greek alphabet on a sheet of paper. Those who gave it to us didn't get it from the internet.

To Blu and all others that commented...
I don't know how the rest of you all were 'raised' ( the only word I can think of right now...no offence.) But if that wasn't the first thing you learned before you went thru intake, it was one of the very first things you had to learn (at my campus at least) before you showed interest.
Not only should one know how to say them in order...but dayum...learn to recognize them!
Someone related to me how someone didn't understand how or why it was important it was to learn but just give up essential information....
To me, learning the letters is the KEY to get all the essential information!

Aww, 2 distinct NPHC orgs being nice to each other, very cute. Regarding this topic, as a Non-Greek, I have received personal/annoying questions from various BGLO and LGLO's regarding the topic of being paddled:
1. Why don't you want to be paddled?
I never said I didn't want to be paddled, and I sure as hell never said that I wished to be paddled, so stop assuming shit.
2. Are your friends afraid of being paddled?
Ask them.
3. Do you think you're going to be paddled?
It doesn't matter. Paddling is not my #1 fear. =\
