No federal hate crime charges will be filed:

The victim went to the trailer on her own free will, apparently to meet some guy she'd met on a phone dating service. However, the six folks involved still face some major state charges, like kidnapping, which could land them in prison for life.

It makes me sad to say this, but honestly, this doesn't surprise me. West Virginia isn't a state known for its tolerance or education. Back in 2000, a gay, black man was beaten, and then run over several times with a car by a couple of teenage boys over some rumors of having a gay relationship. Here's some more info. Another story that I can remember is a police officer refused to give a man having a heart attack CPR, because man was gay, and the officer thought he was HIV+ (he wasn't).

Biologically, the folks of West Virginia aren't inbred, but the thinking and mentality very much are.

I am still curious to know how these people have been charged 108 times and they still are free....and I am just going to add on that today before anyone decides that we are going to have a pissing contest on what parts of the country are more racist than others, the bottom line is that it's sickening that in this day and age stuff like this STILL happens and in such horrifying manner. Sickening that we can't gon any place that we want to go without having to look over our shoulders because we don't know if we may be next or if something happens how will it be perceived.

Just a sad situation and it angers me that this has happened.

I think the hate crime part was dropped because the jail time was longer without that label attached to the charges. If that makes sense. They would get less time in jail having been charged of a hate crime.

Exactly.

And here's an update on the Jena 6:

Judge rules teen should not have been tried as an adult.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20779755/?GT1=10357

It's crazy because there are buses leaving cities like mine and going to Louisiana on the 19th and returning on the 20th. All to protest something that is working itself out without masses of people congregating. Some of whom may be too emotionally charged to protest this without screaming and becoming violent.
