I know I'm late, but in the Teke Magazine last fall there was an interview with Roy Jones Jr. and here are some excerpts:

Quote:
As with any new member initiated into our organization, the
Fraternity is renewed. Furthermore, the Declaration of Principles we
celebrate today continues to show how forward-thinking our National
Founders were. Roy Jones, Jr. is a world-renowned boxer, but even
more importantly, he is a man of solid character who has been living
the ideals of TKE. Jones even said, “I have been a Teke my whole life.
I just didn’t know there was an organization that aligned with my
principles until I met the men of this chapter.”
Jones was approached
by the chapter to work with them on a community service project, but
instead of saying yes right away, he researched the organization. When
he saw the mission of TKE and the chapter demonstrating it, he
decided he wanted to join. He has already been helping the chapter
recruit more new members by attending several events.
Quote:
THE TEKE: You mentioned that one of your main
reasons for joining TKE was how much the phrase “not
for wealth, rank, or honor, but for personal worth and
character” intrigued you. Why is this phrase important?

Jones: This organization doesn’t care about a person’s
worth or what a person has or even what he looks like
because all that fades away in life. The thing that doesn’t fade
is a person’s character. You can’t get character or take it from
someone; you have to learn it and develop that throughout
your life. I hope people look back on my life and say that I was
a man of great character, the basis of this organization.
Hope this helped answer your question.

But why is he in it? :
I don't know but the Gracies offered him a ridiculous amount of money for a fight and he said no. Jiu Jitsu > boxing.

My favorite famous Sigma Kappa would have to be Sarah Weddington. She was one of two attorneys representing "Jane Roe" in Roe v. Wade. Regardless of your thoughts on Roe v. Wade, it is cool that she is the youngest person to win a case before the United States Supreme Court.

I don't know why Delta Zeta would want to claim her after her on-air comments last year following the DePauw mess. She said that she was "ashamed" to have been a member and that when she was president of her DZ chapter at Queens College, the chapter seceeded from the National, due to disagreements over membership selection.

No offense but, how does a "shooting victim" constitute as someone who is famous? It's unfortunate but, AXiD has many other important/ famous women to mention a unfortunate shooting victim.

Debbie Phelps (and her daughters)-mother a Michael Phelps
Kathryn Stockett-Author of "The Help" which is being adapted into a movie
Dana Ivey-Actress (who just happens to be in the new movie, "The Help")
Evette Simmons-Former President of the National Bar Association (also a Delta Sigma Theta)

Ann Bowden-Wife of Bobby Bowden (FSU Football Coach) and mother of the Bowdens who are coaches at other schools

I'm sure there are more but, I don't want to add anymore, tonight.
