our colors are pink and pinker. seriously. i love all shades of pink, so basically, i found the dress that i liked and it happens to come in a raspberry. now, i need to find some other shade of pink that blends nicely. i would have loved to have pastel pink, but my bridesmaids are all so pale, they would have looked dead. 115 more days to go!

*** BUMP***

My fiancee and I are trying to get our wedding colors sorted out, so we can coordinate everything throughout the process.

We'd both love to do red (all my bridesmaids look good in it, his favorite flowers are red roses, etc.) but we're having a June wedding and my mother swears up and down doing red in June will ruin the wedding.

What do you guys think?

It's your wedding.

With weddings, the Golden Rule prevails: Whoever has the gold, makes the rules. If your mother insists on orange bridesmaids' dresses with neon green sashes and lavender shoes, she has to be willing to PAY for the orange dresses, neon green sashes, and lavender shoes - otherwise she can suck it up and deal with the fact that your bridesmaids will wear red.

I think now-a-days, weddings have become more flexible then ever before..a lot of couples deviate from tradition.

Ive seen PLENTY of red color schemes for summer..I say go for it! Try bright red with teal..its one of those "hot color combos" right now..looks really classy!!
Remember, its your day not your moms or anyone elses! Heck my BFF is getting married in November and her colors are baby pink and tiffany blue, that doesnt exactly scream "fall" ya know?

Anyways, my colors are navy blue and pink and Im planning an October 2011 wedding.

Hell, if mom's paying for the wedding she needs to offer the money no strings attached or with clear strings at the beginning "I don't want to pay for your Klan wedding topper" is reasonable, "I don't want to pay for red dresses" is micromanaging.

Thanks! I'm totally new to this, so I will make sure to get that right from now on. :

This is what I told her. If she wants to pay, I'll do whatever she wants. Until then, it's still my wedding.

Thanks for all the advice! I'm going to try out the bright red and teal. David's Bridal has an online app where you can dress up a wedding party to see how the colors look.... Its too much fun.

We did red in August. To keep things simple, it was mostly red and ivory (my dress was ivory). I also added in irises as one of my Kappa elements in both my breakaway bouquet and one of the few arrangements I had. I also used cut limes in that arrangement to add another punch of color and tie in with our signature cocktail, the Brazilian caipirinha- limes, sugar, and sugar cane rum (cachaça). We also had fans as our favors- not the exact shade as the rest, but it was close enough. They were fun to play around with, even though it didn't get hot enough to use them for heat relief- but that's probably a good thing! My bridesmaids carried ivory calla lilies so they'd pop against their dresses- they each picked a different style. Here's a quick montage of some of our red... to be honest if I did it again (three years later), I would probably choose different colors. But that's life- I would do a lot of things differently if I were getting married now! Same groom, though

the only colors I dont care to see in the summer months are black and navy. My cousin had her wedding in july a few years ago and she had red bridesmaids dresses and they looked AWESOME! they all carried big yellow sunflowers, and had bright bold colors in their centerpiece flowers (gerber daisies I think... red, orange, yellow, and some bright blue flower, all in red glass vases. looked very summery). I wish I had pictures, i should go creep her FB page and see if she has any...
I say, go for it, and dress it up with bright accents! (though i'm not sure i would use red roses for the bridesmaids... in traditional pictures, it would be hard to see red roses against a red dress. but the bride in white could carry them and it would tie everything together!)

Meh. I'm not really a fan of red, but it of course is YOUR event and you as a couple should do whatever you want.

You could use brighter shades of red (think 4th of July) as opposed to deeper shades to make it more summery. But at the end of the day, I think it's your wedding and you should choose colors that make you and your fiance happy.

I've seen a zillion red weddings in summer. (ASA sisters, duh ) As long as you don't use crimson velvet, it'll be fine. Don't have the maids carry red roses if they're wearing solid red dresses though.

Not only do they looks stunning, but I just love it when women know how to carry flowers - over the arm like a Miss America, not held like a Statue of Liberty's torch
