I think Ive been having a bad year.
I started at my school in Dec. 2005. Since I have had a crash course in classroom management and have expierenced many many things that most teachers wont ever see...
The BIG list:
(keep in mind I have SECOND grade - average age 7,8,9)
-knife in school (10 day suspension)
-children throwing chairs (over the head, throwing)
-child knocking over all of the tables, chairs in my room (I had to remove my kids) (no suspension)
-same child knocking/throwing over the tables, chairs, things from my desk, and 100+ pound cubbies (5 sets, five cubbies per set) breaking the cubbies (i had to remove my kids for a few hours - no teaching that day!) (3 day suspension)
-child punching out one of my windows (4 day suspension)
-child pulling the fire alarm while in line (cos they cant f-ing listen) (suspension not decided yet, shes still in school)
-being assulted by a fourth grader who is in my reading class (2 days out)
-two bloody noses due to punching and a hard smack to the back of the head (no suspension)
-a bus accident (I wasnt on the bus, but 4 of my kids were) where a bus went down a hill side with a steep drop and right into a house (made national news)
Daily things: (may or may not result in in-school suspension, which usually occurs one or two weeks AFTER the incident, so the kid doesnt fit the punishment with the crime)
-pencil throwing
-fights (at least 3 daily, kids arent pulled from my room and Im expected to teach)
-chair tipping
-table tipping
-swearing
-calling the teacher names
-leaving the room
-excessive talking (Believe me that I have TRIED everything, positive, negative, write ups, time outs (school policy), principal, etc
-talking about sex
-running on table tops and computer table, heaters
theres more but I cant think of them right now.
So yea. IM STILL THERE AFTER ALL OF THIS... and this past week we were told that contracts for next year (year to year basis for hiring etc) will be out soon and that we all should have got our letters asking us to return...
...
not me.
WHY? I dont know yet. I noted when asked if I would come back, that might move away... but if I dont, I would want to stay and even take on some other responsibilities.
So Im gonna ask my principal. BUT shes kinda scary.
And there is NOTHING done about the children's behavior. AND the one second grade teacher wants to go to third and keep his kids. So mine will be together again next year. THEY NEED TO BE SPLIT UP, DUH!
Oh well. Thats my rant.
Unemployment here I come.

girl, where are you teaching? you need to get yourself out of that position. can you sue the school district? if you're getting bloody noses and they aren't doing anything about these students who are basically assaulting you then you should press charges or something, that sounds like hell!
</crash> LOL!

while reading your post i kept telling myself, "I hope she has good health insurance." lol
I really don't know how you've stuck it out that long. I remember when i was in grade school some of my teachers use to make us sit on the floor doing our work if you couldn't sit at your desk.
Oh god...did i really just say, "I remember when?" I really need to stop getting older. lol
LITP,
Natalia

Need prayers for someone
Hello to all my sisters,
I just wanted to ask for all your prayers, positive thoughts, etc for my boyfriend's mom. He just found out his mom, Victoria, has lung cancer and it doesn't look good. I am a firm believer in the power of prayers and the miracles it can bring so please ask everyone you know to add her to their prayer lists.
Thank you,
Carolyn

When it rains, it pours...
After all the stress with my job - and then the job hunt...
two weeks ago my moms bf Jim went into the hospital. They thought he had pnumonia (sp). They then realized it was a problem with the disease he had - pulmonary fibrosis.
They put him in a coma on Thurs to take a biopsy of his lung. My mom told me on Friday that he was never going to come out of the coma. His lungs were destroyed by the disease and it would be inhumaine to take him off of the respirator. On Saturday the family made the decision to take him off life support.
My mom had known Jim since he was in first and she was in second. He was best friends with her brother. They have been dating since November and it was great. My mom has fibromyalgia and is often stuck in the house and at times bedridden. He was a great companion to her.
It was just sudden, and really hard to sit there and see this man who was wonderful to me and my family, in a bed - alive, but not really.
He donated his organs and since Phi Sig is doing stuff with Transplant Games, I might see what I can do to help out there.
So this memorial weekend, I was doing a float with my Beta Sigma Phi chapter (3rd place!) and dealing with Jim's death and then yesterday after my first day back at my job - I went to the doctors and got diagnosed with a very very bad case of strep throat.
Fantastic.
I had to first cancel my plans to visit my bf this weekend (I have Fri off) due to Jim's funeral (I havent seen Cory since March!) Now I had to cancel my interview due to the strep and the funeral preperations (I had Thurs off for the interview)
Ugh.
Im asking for prayers too - please keep my mom in your prayers. Shes not well as it is and this is just breaking her heart...
Life kinda sucks some time!
But I get a lot of reading done/scrapbooking!
Carolyn,
I will def. keep your BFs family in my prayers. My grandfather had lung cancer - it was a difficult time!!

today was the first day that we've seen rain in a while...
and so on my way to work today, a truck fishtailed and swirved in front of me, ending in my car being totalled.
the worst part was that the driver of the truck (after spinning across 4 lanes of freeway and hitting the guard rail) backed up and then fled the scene!!!!
i ended up spending an hour and a half abandoned in the middle of the freeway, waiting for CHP & a flat bed tow truck to come get me...
BUT, even though my car is completely demolished, i'm so thankful that i only walked away with some small cuts (from the air bags) and neck/back pain - it could have been A LOT worse!!!
sooooo, i'm car-less and hoping that karma will kick that mofo's butt one of these days (plus all of the witnesses that never even stopped to see if i was ok) and am looking at what kind of car i want to purchase next.

thanks ali

Phi Sigma Sigma Sister, Nicole Shiffman from the Beta Alpha Chapter at the University of Maryland, was murdered in Arizona.
Here's an article on it.
My prayers go out to her family and chapter sisters.
