"What is this sorority like?"

I know that it is fun to hear the replies others are having to these "what's this sorority like at your school" threads. BUT, is it really necessary to tear a sorority to shreds when you can just say "in my opinion they aren't doing well at our school", instead of, "this sorority is fat and ugly", or "this sorority does so many drugs and they are so easy" It's especially bad when your rival sororities from your own school come on here just to badmouth you. You really need to be careful what you believe because a lot of it may not be true. Why are we attacking each other when we are already being attacked by anti-greeks?

One needn't take these posts so personal. People just want to know the rep that their sorority has on different campuses. It's often best to hear these things from people outside the sorority cause everyone loves their own chapter and thinks it's the best. People are just saying what they heard and what certain houses reps are, they aren't trying to "tear into" anyone or any house. If you have a problem with these sort of posts then don't ask those sort of questions and don't answer them either.

Asking that question is unnecessary. You shouldn't ask the question if you don't want negative feedback. Every group has strengths and weaknesses, so don't be surprised if you read about the latter here. If you really want to know how individual chapters of your national are doing, you can contact that chapter, your national, or that school. Why does it matter how another chapter at another school is doing in the opinion of someone you don't know? Don't worry about other people's opinions and just enjoy yourself!

AXWhoah - gotta disagree with you on this one. Us old-timers (GC Vets) have been round and round on this so many times in the past! And the main problem is exactly what you said "people just say what they heard" -- which could be anything! I mean look at all the stuff we hear on the rumor-line everyday. Do you really want people to post rumors and hearsay about greeks? That is what we get every single day from the media. We have a ton of prospective new members on here everyday, and I don't think they need to hear about some of this stuff that happens at different campuses, and then think it applies to the chapter at their school. Every chapter is going to be different. Every chapter has their problems. Just like the person who said "I heard they do cocaine" -- HELLO??? What kind of statement was that? I heard that aliens kidnapped Elizabeth Taylor and performed an anal probe on her.......oh - well maybe that one was true

But seriously - this isn't about wanting to know how our chapters are doing elsewhere. If you want to know that stuff, please use the sisters-only website at www.alphachiomega.org -- On GC its just another way for people to appear to be polite when all they really want to know is the dirt on each other.

I'm not trying to come down on you, so please don't take it as such. Just trying to give you the other side of the story since we have been there before. AXO Love to you!

Can I ask the important question....?

Why do you care what others think about your sorority/fraternity? Im mean yeah its interesting if they bring it up, but what does it really matter as long as you know what you and your org are all about?

I agree. With the anonymity of the internet, you will have people writing nasty things about other groups because there are no consequences. Personally, I have always believed that if you can't say anything nice, say nothing at all. Unfortunately, not everyone thinks that way, and when they see an opportunity to lash out they seize it.

Sundevil2000 - you seem really happy with your sorority so don't worry about what anyone else thinks. I learned a long time ago that my opinion of myself and my sorority was far more important to me than the opinion of someone who either didn't know me or didn't care about me. Never believe the worst or the best of what you hear about yourself. That way you stay grounded and happy! Enjoy!

Sundevil2000...

I know exactly the posts to which you are referring and, yes, I agree with you that the phrases those girls used were unnecessary. Those posts bothered me so much, actually, that I spoke with some of the other GreekChat regulars about them and we surmised that the only reason that someone would be so tactless is if they had a personal hatred for a group (i.e. they got cut or one of the sisters stole their boyfriend, etc.)

On the good side though, is when someone is THAT outspoken and hate-filled, people are less likely to listen. Most reactions would probably be along the lines of MY reaction....Ooooooh, someone didn't get the bid they wanted!
