These young men, affectionately termed “Jewels” by members of the fraternity, paved the way for monumental achievement and success from leaders in the African American community. Men such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Thurgood Marshall, Adam Clayton Powell Jr., W.E.B. DuBois, Jessie Owens, Duke Ellington, Paul Robeson, Countee Cullen, and thousands of others have joined their ranks in membership.
