Lyrics that means something to you and why?

this song really hit me. everytime I hear this song, reminds me of the girl I could've been with, but let go due to my stupidity.

Quote:
Black - Pearl Jam

Sheets of empty canvas, untouched sheets of clay,
Were laid spread out before me as her body once did.
All five horizons revolved around her soul,
As the earth to the sun.
Now the air I tasted and breathed has taken a turn.
And all I taught her was everything...
I know she gave me all that she wore...

And now my bitter hands shake beneath the clouds,
Of what was everything.
All the pictures have all been washed in black...
...tattooed everything.

I take a walk outside. I'm surrounded by some kids at play.
I can feel their laughter, so why do I sear?
And twisted thoughts that spin around my head...
I'm spinning...I'm spinning...
How quick the sun can drop away.

And now my bitter hands cradle broken glass,
Of what was everything.
All the pictures have all been washed in black...
...tattooed everything.
All the love gone bad turned my world to black...
...tattooed all I see...all that I am...all I'll be.

I know someday you'll have a beautiful life,
I know you'll be a star in somebody else's sky,
But why, why, why can't it be, can't it be mine?

"I Did My Best" by Soul Asylum from LET YOUR DIM LIGHT SHINE

Holed up in the dressing room
without a dress
kneeling at the confessional
with nothing to confess
and I knew all about my surprise party
I was spoiled and depressed
so I acted surprized and I told lots of lies
yes, I did my best

Stop the truck at the truck stop
I need something to help me crash
foodstamps, checks and credit cards
but they only accepted cash
sweat was pouring off my brow
my heart was beating out of my chest
so I stole everything they couldn't give away
and yes, I did my best

I did the best that could do
with all the mess that I been through
what did you expect me to do?
I did my best for you

I was waiting for a chain reaction
with a missing link
waiting for that trickle down
forever circling the sink
I was tired of feeling tired
I could not get no rest
so I kept sleep walking and talking in my sleep
yes I did my best

And I did the best that I could do
with all the mess that I've been through
what did you expect me to do?
I did my best for you.

Its for anyone who's ever asked me why I want[ed] to kill myself.

from same album PROMICES BROKEN

for everyone i've dated or whatever

Streets are filled with broken glass
You get buried by the past
Give me just a little taste
Lay this mess to waste
Take me home

My mind is racing take me home
My body's achin'so alone
I'll make you want to stay with me
Befriended by the enemy
One more time

And every little thing about this tells me
Nothing out there is ever gonna help me
All these words that I hear spoken just promises broken now

Looking outside from my window sill
Throw another coin in the wishing well
You'll never find what you're looking for
Fifteen miles
Your dim light shines from so far away
Your sad smile
Is all I see when I say

That every little thing about this tells me
Nothing out there is ever gonna help me
All these words that I hear spoken just promises broken now

From the Hotel Satellite
Don't look like you're living right
Here's a deal you can't refuse
You ain't got as much to lose

Can you tell your troubles to
Someone who won't laugh at you
It's all right
And as I watch you walk away
Hope a part of you would stay
It's all right

And every little thing about this tells me
Nothing out there is ever gonna help me
All these words that I hear spoken just promises broken now

Reviewmirror by Pearl Jam
It meant something to me a while back when I had a friend who was emotionally abusive to a bunch of us.

I took a drive today. Time to emancipate.
I guess it was the beatings, made me wise.
But I'm not about to give thanks or apologize.

I couldn't breathe. Holding me down.
Hand on my face. Pushed to the ground.
Enmity gauged. United by fear.
Forced to endure what I could not forgive.

I seem to look away. The wounds in the mirror waved.
It wasn't my surface. Most defiled.

Head at your feet. Fool to your crown.
Fist on my plate. Swallowed it down.
Enmity gauged. United by fear.
Tried to endure what I could not forgive.

Saw things clearer....
Once you were in my Rearviewmirror.
I gathered speed from you fucking with me.
Once and for all I'm far away.
Hard to believe. Finally the shades are raised.

Pimp Juice

This song never fails to remind me of my pimposity. It also kind of makes fun of the Packers.

[Intro]
One pound for the hoe, that's all we need baby
Just one for the hoes.. c'mon

[Chorus]
Pimp juice - oooooooooh-ooooooooh-hoooooooo
I think I need to let it loose (might think I need to let it loose)
Let her loose, let her loooooose
She only want me for my pimp juice (that's all she want me for f'real)
Not my pimp juice, I'm talkin new pimp juice
I think I need to cut her loose (it's time for homegirl to recognize)
Yes I do, yes I doooooo-hoooo

[Nelly]
I'm in that, seventy-four, Coupe DeVille
With the, power seats, leather, wood on my wheel
One-touch sunroof BUT leave it alone
Hoes see it can't believe it - "It's goin back on it's own"
Oooooooooooooooh, shit, that's how we do it baby
"Every day like this?" Seven dayy-ayyys
.. I tell you three-sixty-five
Winter spring and fall, in the summer we ride
You actin like you never seen it befo'
Like them country boys ain't got no dough
Bitch please - GET OUT - but don't you slam that do'
DUST YOUR SHOES OFF - befo' you touch that flo'
Cause you wanna put your feet on my rug, don'tcha?
You really wanna put your feet on my rug, don'tcha?
You're in a hurry - SLOW DOWN - and I might letcha touch it
You ain't from Russia, so bitch why you Russian?

[Chorus] w/ minor variations

[Nelly]
Now I'm - clean as a whistle (yeah) sharp as a razor (uh-huh)
In anythang from Timberland to Gaines
Now listen - I play the haters (ooh) like they should be played
And uhh - I love the ladies (ooh) like they should get laid
That's why I - I got my fade everybody had braids
And now they - switch to fades and I'm thinkin 'bout braids
Just an example of hoochieless jackin
If we were hoopin, I'd be yellin "They hackin"
I see you momma, in my Dolce Gabbana
Gucci and Prada baby I gotta lotta
The lucciana ain't a problem for poppa
That's all you want then baby girl I'ma holla
Cause you wanna put your feet on my rug, don'tcha?
You really wanna put your feet on my rug, don'tcha?
You're in a hurry - SLOW DOWN - I don't like how you actin
Treat you like you're from Milwaukee, send you Green Bay Packin

[Chorus] w/ minor variations

(I think I just..
need to take this time and explain to 'em exactly..
what the pimp juice is)

[Chorus]
Uh, hear me out now
Now your pimp juice is anything, attract the opposite sex
It could be money, fame, or straight intellect
It don't MATTER! Bitches got the pimp juice too
Come to think about it - dirty, they got more than we do
They got mo' - juice in they talk, got mo' juice in they walk
They got mo' - juice in they veins, OOH GOD DAMN!
I tell you man it's a cryin shame..
.. how people use, the juice in vein - you hear me mayne
Pimp juice is color blind
You find it work on all color creeds and kinds
From ages 50 right down to 9
The Mayor of Nellyville and I won't resign, watch me recline
Cause you wanna put your feet on my rug, don'tcha?
You really wanna put your feet on my rug, don'tcha?
You're in a hurry - SLOW DOWN - bitch I got all night
Matter fact, stand on my left boo - I know you ain't right

[Chorus] w/ minor variations

Lauryn Hill - Ex-Factor

Reminds me of past relationships I've had:

It could all be so simple
But you'd rather make it hard
Loving you is like a battle
And we both end up with scars
Tell me, who I have to be
To get some reciprocity
No one loves you more than me
And no one ever will

Is this just a silly game
That forces you to act this way
Forces you to scream my name
Then pretend that you can't stay
Tell me, who I have to be
To get some reciprocity
No one loves you more than me
And no one ever will

Hook:
No matter how I think we grow
You always seem to let me know
It ain't workin'
It ain't workin'
And when I try to walk away
You'd hurt yourself to make me stay
This is crazy
This is crazy

I keep letting you back in
How can I explain myself
As painful as this thing has been
I just can't be with no one else
See I know what we got to do
You let go and I'll let go too
'Cause no one's hurt me more than you
And no one ever will

Repeat Hook

Care for me, care for me
I know you care for me

There for me, there for me
Said you'd be there for me

Cry for me, cry for me
You said you'd die for me

Give to me, give to me
Why won't you live for me
(Repeat)

Sade's War of the Heart.....I haven't had a relationship like this thankfully, but have witnessed my friends go through their drama and it always reminds me of this song.

War of the Heart

I could aim
But I could not fire
Got a bullet to spare
To kill my desire
Who's calling the shots
One of us must make the Peace
To have or to have not
The fire has got to cease

I'm loaded
Don't know where to point this thing
It's a sin
How we hit where it hurts

Who's calling the shots
One of us must end this masquerade
To have or to have not
Let's heal the wounds that we've made

It'a a war of the heart (it's a war of the heart)
It's a war of the heart

Got a bullet to space, don't wanna send it your way

Who's calling the shots
One of us, must make the peace
To have or to have not
The fire has got to cease

It'a a war of the heart (it's a war of the heart)
It's a war of the heart

I'm loaded
Don't know where to point this thing
(it's a sin) It's a sin
How we hit where it hurts (where it hurts)

One of us
Gotta end this masquerade
Got to heal the wounds that we've made
I've got a bullet to spare
Don't want to send it your way
If you want to end it
If you want to end it just say

It'a a war of the heart (it's a war of the heart)
It's a war of the heart

(Got to end this masqurade)

I've got a bullet to spare
Don't want to send it your way
If you want to end it
If you want to end it just say

It'a a war of the heart
It's a war of the heart
It'a a war of the heart

"War bellows blazing in scarlet battalions.
Generals order their soldiers to kill.
And to fight for a cause they've long ago forgotten."

--Scarborough Fair/Canticle by Simon and Garfunkle

and:

"Red was the color
Of his blood flowing thin
Pallid white was the
Color of his lifeless skin

Blue was the color
Of the morning sky
He saw looking up from
The ground where he died
It was the last thing
Ever seen by him

Kyrie Eleison"

..Requiem For The Masses -- Gary Puckett and the Union Gap

and finally:

"To every thing, turn, turn, turn
There is a season, turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

[CHORUS]

A time to build up, a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones
A time to gather stones together

[CHORUS]

A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
A time you may embrace
A time to refrain from embracing

[CHORUS]

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time for love, a time for hate
A time for peace, I swear it's not too late"

..Turn, Turn, Turn -- The Byrds

Is it too late?

I am not my hair - india.arie

[Talking:]
Is that India.Arie? What happened to her hair? Ha ha ha ha ha
Dat dad a dat da [4x] Dad a ooh

[Verse 1]
Little girl with the press and curl
Age eight I got a Jheri curl
Thirteen I got a relaxer
I was a source of so much laughter
At fifteen when it all broke off
Eighteen and went all natural
February two thousand and two
I went and did
What I had to do
Because it was time to change my life
To become the women that I am inside
Ninety-seven dreadlock all gone
I looked in the mirror
For the first time and saw that HEY....

[Chorus]
I am not my hair
I am not this skin
I am not your expectations no no
I am not my hair
I ma not this skin
I am a soul that lives within

[Talking:]
What'd she do to her hair? I don't know it look crazy
I like it. I might do that.
Umm I wouldn't go that far. I know .. ha ha ha ha

[Verse 2]
Good hair means curls and waves
Bad hair means you look like a slave
At the turn of the century
Its time for us to redefine who we be
You can shave it off
Like a South African beauty
Or get in on lock
Like Bob Marley
You can rock it straight
Like Oprah Winfrey
If its not what's on your head
Its what's underneath
and say HEY....

[Chorus]

[Bridge]
(Whoa, whoa, whoa)
Does the way I wear my hair make me a better person?
(Whoa, whoa, whoa)
Does the way I wear my hair make me a better friend? Oooh
(Whoa, whoa, whoa)
Does the way I wear my hair determine my integrity?
(Whoa, whoa, whoa)
I am expressing my creativity..
(Whoa, whoa, whoa)

[Verse 3]
Breast Cancer and Chemotherapy
Took away her crown and glory
She promised God if she was to survive
She would enjoy everyday of her life ooh
On national television
Her diamond eyes are sparkling
Bald headed like a full moon shining
Singing out to the whole wide world like HEY...

[Chorus 2x]

[Ad lib]
If I wanna shave it close
Or if I wanna rock locks
That don't take a bit away
From the soul that I got
Dat da da dat da [4x]
If I wanna where it braided
All down my back
I don't see what wrong with that
Dat da da dat da [4x]

[Talking:]
Is that India.Arie?
Ooh look she cut her hair!
I like that, its kinda PHAT
I don't know if I could do it.
But it looks sharp, it looks nice on her
She got a nice shaped head
She got an apple head
I know right?
It's perfect.

This song is very important to me for a number of reasons. First, I like the way that Mr. Cris stretches his vocabulary. It's quite admirable. Second, although it's vulgar, it reminds me that no, I am not a Ho.

With that, "Ho," by Ludacris:

You doin ho activities
With ho tendencies
Hos are your friends, hoes are your enemies
With ho energy to do whacha do
Blew whacha blew
Screw whacha screw
Yall professional like DJ Clue, pullin on my coat tail
an why do you think you take a ho to a hotel?
Hotel everybody, even the mayor
Reach up in tha sky for tha hozone laya
Come on playa once a ho always
And hos never close they open like hallways
An heres a ho cake for you whole ho crew
an everybody wants some cuz hoes gotta eat too

Cant turn a ho into a housewife
Hos dont act right
Theres hos on a mission, an hoes on a crackpipe
Hey ho how ya doin, where ya been?
Prolly doin ho stuff cuz there you ho again
Its a ho wide world, that we livin in
feline, feminine, fantastical, women
Not all, just some
You ho who you are
Theres hoes in tha room, theres hoes in tha car
theres hoes on stage, theres hoes by tha bar
hos by near, an hos by far
Ho! (But can i getta ride?!)
NO! (Cmon, ---- why?!)
Cuz youza

You gotta run in your pantyhos
Even your daddy knows
that you suckin down chocolate like daddy-o's
You hos are horrible, horrendous
On taxes ya'll writin off hos as dependents
I see tha ho risin
it aint surprisin
its just a hoasis
with ugly chicks faces
but hos dont feel so sad and blue
cuz most of us ----- is hos too

Song: You'll Never Walk Alone
This was our Marching Band Theme song that we play after ever parade/home game/performance. There are about 3 different traditions as to why.

When you walk through a storm
Keep your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark.
At he end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark.

Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown.Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone,
You'll never walk alone.
