We had lived together for a couple of years and were in love. I had always thought I wanted to be a bachelor for a long time, but I started thinking seriously about marriage. At that point, I realized I wanted to propose to her.

Well, I'm engaged to my best friend ever I realized that if we broke up and I started dating someone else, that he would still be the person I would want to call every night to talk to about it. I realized that I would talk to him more than I would talk to anyone else I could ever imagine dating - which probably wouldn't be very nice or healthy for him, me, or anyone I dated. So that was that - we simply would have to never break up. So I told that that was never going to happen, so at some point, we were just going to have to get engaged, and then at some point after that, we were going to have to get married. He decided that sounded good to him, and so not too long later, we were "officially" engaged, and we're getting married next year! (We decided that we wanted a long engagement - to get a good feel for the idea of marriage and really work everything out with that kind of commitment in mind, and to wait for both of us to get out of school.)

This is going to sound retarded, but I knew after our first (and only - to this point) HUGE fight when we were able to work through it and move on, that he was going to be the one for the rest of my life. I wasn't ready to be married then, I wasn't even ready to be engaged. But I knew that he was "the one". We've been engaged just over 6 months now - and the wedding is next October (2007).

I knew it was time when my now-wife mentioned how long we'd been dating over and over and over and over and over (repeat ad nauseum).
