Question I'd really like to know...

Hi everyone! I am fairly new to the GC community and have been busy reading posts galore. I am interested in alumnae initiation, since I attended a college w/o a Greek system for women, and I am researching the GLOs to figure out which ones would be a "fit" with me. I would very much appreciate info about Phi Mu from y'all... what drew you into the group, what have some of your meainingful experiences been, how are the alumnae groups? Any info you could give would be great! Thanks so much!

well first of all i'll tell you that which ever sorority you decide to join you're going to have to have a reference from a female currently in the chapter.... to go alumni atleast that's how it is in Phi MU...

i'm a 4th yr Phi Mu at the college of charleston and i cant' tell you how much my girls mean tome. Obviously it'll be different for me as a college student verses you as someone who's already graduated.... I think that you should probably know girls in the chapters or contact the alumni groups since thats who you will be hanging out with , and every group differs per area.

what drew me into phi mu? the sories they told atformal to show their sisterhood, the way multiple sisters would introduce theirselves and want to find out more about you and made you feel important while you were in their house... then what keeps you is the bond you make with you rbig sister, later your little sisters, the bond you make with your phi class

I can tell you one of girls dad's passed away last year and when the chapter found out we all stuck together, we brought food to her house, some of the girls slept over on her floor to be beside her

one of our girls came down with appendictis * sp* and shes from illinois so her family wasn' there, there wasn't hardly one moment that she was in the hospital all alone

when i got in to a car wreck and didn't have a car my freshman year my sisters drove me around, and they were there to support me afterwards, and as a female your sisters are there to support you in breakups, to be there with you through the happy times.. I honestly can't imagine myself as part of any other greek organization..

I think being in your posistion though is tough, because if you don't know about teh chapters, there really isn't an open house for you. We've had 1 woman go phi mu that didn't attend the collegiate chapter and it was more so because her daughter had been a phi mu and she loved it, my moms talked about it but hasn't done it.. i mean at this point you're going to just have to contact the local alumni groups and talk to them and tell them that you'd like to hang out with them.. i can tell you dues are a lot cheaper in alumni chapters and they might have a day o fthe week where you all get together and go out, and some chatpers are more involved with the colllege chapters than any of the others.... so you just have to kind of search around now

Thanks for the info, phimugirl4life. Right now, being in Germany because of my husband (Army), I don't even really have an option of even contacting alumnae chapters. I am more in the process now of just gathering some information about what's out there, and more about the AI process for certain groups. When I move back to the states, I should be ready to proceed with plans and contact people and all of that. And, I just have to say, CofC rocks!! I'm from Summerville originally, and I really miss home!
