I know they have to be a certain format, but that's all I know. If you have an LJ, check out the ipod community

both quicktime & real player are proper formats...
if you want music videos Just Jared is a good site for them...so is Yahoo Video.
I would suggest getting the Quicktime Pro so you can download anything you want..it's only like $30 & might be less for students....

I have the same one. From what I gather so far, you have to have quicktime pro to convert anything into the correct format. I have some files on quicktime, and even those won't go into my ipod.

Whenever I need to find out about ipods, I go here.... http://www.ilounge.com
It's great. They have tutorials called ipod 101 and itunes 101. They also have tips on how to customize itunes and ipods, it's a good site.

My iPod headphones broke. What should I get to replace them with? I don't really want to spend more than $50, and I like the in-ear style a lot because it's convenient for working out and riding the bus.

Is it still under warranty? When mine broke, I just brought them to Apple and they gave me a new pair.

I don't have any real info on 'ear bud'-style phones, because I prefer the neck-wrap style ones . . . they stay on as well or better as buds, especially in the gym or on the bus, and they hold up a lot better on my ears rather (buds get annoying for me, fast).
The Sony ones are solid, and they're around $20 . . .

The earbuds and I just weren't meant to be together, I bought a stupid cheap pair when my other ones broke and they suck now too.
I think I will go with the over-ear ones now, but does anybody know of a good and not too expensive for my broke ass pair that folds? I carry so much crap around in my bag every day that I don't want to deal with the bulk of headpones too.

Dude, I've been converted to the Church of the Quality Headphones - these are my latest toys for the road:
Sennheiser PX200
The MSRP isn't even close - I paid $50 and that was at a freaking Guitar Center (although, to be fair, he may have thought he was selling me the PX100s... anyway), amazon quickly becomes a blowout. For $35ish you can get these, which are behind-the-head . . . check the website, but there are a surprising number of dealers.
You'll never buy anything Sony-related again - the sound quality is incredible, even on the low-end ones, and they put up with a LOT more abuse. The PX (over-the-head) ones fold extremely nicely, and even come with a hardcase to keep them in when folded.
I don't even want to tell you what I paid for the high-end pair for my cube, but let's just say they're completely incredible and worth every penny.

Awesome - they sell them at the Circuit City near my apartment, I'll go check them out next week.

I could use some decent earbud-style headphones for less than $50 or so. Is there such a thing? I got the Apple ones and they're okay, but I don't love them. They're hard to position just right and move around too much when I'm running, plus it's super annoying when the cord hits anything -- you can hear it.

These are pretty awesome. They do surround sound and they're earbuds. They won a few awards & they only cost $16...the way they do it is by fitting down inside your ear & having speakers at different places almost outside of your ear...my friend has them & they're really cool.
