ok so i've heard lots about this brothel "myth" and that the reason there are *apparently* no sorority houses in boston is because there is, in fact, a law. here's what i found:
LODGING HOUSES
Chapter 140: Section 26. Permitting immoral conduct; defense; evidence
Section 26. Whoever, being licensed as a lodging house keeper under sections twenty-two to thirty-one, inclusive, or as an innholder, or, being licensed under sections thirty-two A to thirty-two E, inclusive, or being in actual charge, management or control of such lodging house, inn or premises for which the license is issued, knowingly permits the property under his control to be used for the purpose of immoral solicitation, immoral bargaining or immoral conduct shall be punished by a fine of not less than five hundred nor more than one thousand dollars or by imprisonment for not less than six months nor more than one year, or both. Evidence that a room in a hotel or lodging house or that the premises licensed under sections thirty-two A to thirty-two E, inclusive, were not actually used for immoral conduct shall not prevent a conviction under this section of a person in actual charge, control or management of the hotel, lodging house or premises who permits the occupation of such a room or such premises knowing or having good reason to know that the person occupying such room or premises intends to use either for immoral solicitation, immoral bargaining or immoral conduct. If it is required that registers be kept, as provided in sections twenty-seven and twenty-eight, evidence that the person in actual charge, control or management of the hotel, lodging house or premises has knowingly permitted the occupation of a private room of less than four hundred square feet floor area or of premises, containing a bed or couch, by the same woman on different occasions within a period of thirty days with different men, or by the same man on different occasions within a period of thirty days with different women, shall be prima facie evidence of a violation of this section.
i don't really understand any of that. anyone care to explain???
and as far as i know, there aren't any sorority houses in boston. but i'm not sure about the entire state of massachusetts. does anyone know why that is?
i'm very curious, sorry :-)

It makes it illegal for anyone who is licensed to operate a hotel/motel/inn or lodging house or the like, or who manages such a facility, to allow the property to be used for prostitution or solicition. It has nothing to do with women simply living in the same place; it does not ban sorority houses.

Why do people post rude and negative comments especially to people who are new to this? Just because a person has been on here 7+ years doesn't give them the right to be rude. (I'm sure I will get a lot of negative responses here)

It's not just people who are new to this. In fact, if I post a particularly naive comment somewhere, people tend to flame me, too.
Life isn't all sunshine and roses. Maybe you'd like to go where the rainbows and ponies play?

Why do people with only one or two posts think that an appropriate way to introduce themselves to the rest of GC is by making blanket accusations of rudeness and negativity? And why are the people who make these blanket accusations of rudeness so often rude themselves?

Here's a good one:
How do sororities decide who gets a bid?
That's considered part of our Membership Selection process and it's PRIVATE.
So we can't tell you that. Sorry.

I was looking for something and by chance i found this forum. I have become a member in order to ask :
1. What is "Greek life system"?
2. Why a college administrator wants to start a "Greek Life system"? - http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...d.php?t=103081
3. Has anything to do with soublaki - frape - malaka - arguing always and for whatever - stealing from the state - and all this "angelic thinks of chaos" that complies with the real "Greek life system" ?
I believe that I'm asking a fool question, so that's the reason for putting this question ... HERE

The "Greek life system" refers to the various fraternities and sororities at North American colleges and universities, and can also refer to the specific group of chapters at any given campus. This website has nothing to do with Greece as a country.

Your answer has cover me only in half. I'm accepting that it has nothing to do with the "country", but why are you (not especially you) use the word "Greek" and not the word "X" or "Y".
Has this word a special meaning (?), is there something behind the word for you to use it (not especially you)?
I'm encounter the "Greek life system" term, to be used as you describe, for the first time here and now (for I'm nearly 30). So believe me, i found this use of the term very odd.
I never said that I know everything in the world and I have no means to criticize or do anything negative against this forum, I am here for the answer on the above said question.
Nevertheless, the title of this thread is "This forum is for various discussion topics regarding greek life". What do you expect me to think?

The names of most fraternities and sororities are represented by Greek letters. The specific reason(s) behind any particular combination of letters are generally only known to the members of a given fraternity or sorority. For example, the first such organization to adopt a Greek-lettered name was Phi Beta Kappa, now an honor society. Their name stands for the phrase "philosophia biou kybernetes" and was represented by the initials FBK.
You'll no doubt notice, however, the logo in the upper left corner of your screen states: "The Fraternity & Sorority Greek Chat Network."
