Dear AOII Sisters-
We've all witnessed the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Many of the evacuees are temporarily being lodged in Phoenix and we thought we'd be able to assist them as an organization. Please pass this along to your friends and family - they do not have to be AOIIs to assist.
Of course we have all the AOIIs in our heart first. We're encouraging everyone to make monetary donations to the AOII Ruby Katrina Relief fund at the
www.alphaomicronpi.org website. There are many AOIIs affected by Katrina and this is a way to help our AOII family.
If you don't have evacuees coming to your areas and you'd like a place to send clothes or other donations, we'll accept. The Phx alumnae are working hard to help but our resources are limited too. From what I understand, we are told that at least one third of evacuees of the gulf coast evacuees will make Phoenix a permanent home since there's no where else to go.
Here are some ways to help:
1. Donate Pandas to comfort all the small children
2. Help us adopt a family who is permanently relocating to Phoenix after losing their home, job, income, church. They literally escaped the gulf coast area with the clothes on their back and their cars. After a few days in the hotel and realizing that there was nothing to go back to, they've elected (10 of them in the extended family) to move to Arizona where they have a few family members. And you can imagine how much they are paying for gas just to get here. They should be arriving later this week and are in need of the following:
Housing if you know of anyone who can assist (their family members currently live in east Mesa)
GAS Cards to help with transportation
Household Items- Huge Family Size Cookware (we will have a family of 14 when they come.)
Gift Cards- Wal-mart, Target, Westcor Mall, Costco, Fry's, Albertson's etc.
Air Matresses, Twin Beds (Bedding stuff)
Toiletries-personal Care Packages
Comfort items for the kids
School supplies - backpacks, etc
The family members include school age children who need clothing as well as adults :
