Totally random, but I love this time of the year! With the Kentucky Derby on Saturday we get out of school Friday for Oaks Day! All the stars are starting to come into town and everything just seems more clean and pretty this week!
Oh I guess I should mention I live in a suburb of Louisville, KY.

i'm so nervous! Tonight I'm going to Delta Sigma Phi's Carnation Ball and I've never been to any fraternity events. Also tomorrow they're having their famous Dragonfest so I have no idea what to expect haha. Wish me luck!:-)

One of my chapter's current new member is going to the Kentucky Derby this weekend! That's awesome :-) She's crazy about horses and she drove 9 hours just to go see the Derby!

After an unintentional dating hiatus, I'm putting myself out there again...and it looks quite promising! Go, me!

I totally forgot about getting off school for Oaks Day! I grew up in Louisville and definitely agree that derby time is the best part of the year. People just don't get it outside of Kentucky though. Slightly random, but this is the Random Thread afterall In other news, I'm taking the MCAT in a week, and it's just now starting to sink in...

Today was my last meeting as alumnae panhellenic president! Yeah! It's been rewarding but a LONG year!

Cute Skull & Crossbones Tank Top at Target
I just thought I'd share...I just picked up the cutest tank at Target for only $9.99! It's off-white/ecru with purple (well, plum, really) trim and has little purple/plum skull & cross bones all over it! Very cute and casual for summer!

I found an adorable black tee with a purple skull on it the other day at Wet Seal.

Well girls, I'm a grad student now and I'm really enjoying my classes!
In other random news, I love my new apartment. It's my first one ever
I'm also remaining involved with Sigma, since I go to grad school at my alma mater. I helped with recruitment and attended Bid Night last night where I got to meet my chapter's newest members. I'm so proud of them!

Random updates from the life of sailboatgirl...
Earlier this month, my alumnae chapter had our 75th anniversary celebration! I was on the planning committee, and although we didn't have as many in attendance as we would have like, we still had a great time! A good mix of golden violets, alumnae from several decades, and even some collegiates and a new member from our near by collegiate chapter. It was a very fun event!
Also, I'm still with the new boyfriend!!!!! And, we're totally in love! I've become a girlie-girl and am all smiley all the time! Things are still going well! He took me to Vegas for my birthday last month, and we're going out of state next week to meet all his friends and family from back home! Wish me luck!
Oh, and I'm home sick with a nasty chest cold! I'm just counting down the hours until my doctor's office can fit me in!

Nope, no Sigma songs...I was originally going to do our "Chug" chant...but decided it's too inappropriate for a wedding...not the best for a wedding. I did wear my pin inside my dress though and wore tons of pearls!

Aww congrats, ilovetheviolets!! You look beautiful in the photo! Sigma weddings are so much fun. I was one of my Big Sister's bridesmaids as well when she got married a few years ago.
And glad to hear that grad school is starting off well Jocelyn. How are classes treating you now that you're a month into it?
Scotland is lovely as ever. I had an absolutely insane summer travelling for my research (London and Venice), a friend's wedding (I was her maid of honour) and dancing in the Fringe festival in Edinburgh for two weeks. Fun stuff, if tiring.
I can't believe I have less than a year to finish my PhD. Ack. I would like to know where my second year went and why my supervisor didn't make me write more (I have about 22,000 words so far of an 80,000 word thesis). But it will get done, and in a little over a year (barring any major disasters), I shall be Dr ShyViolet. hehe.
Sigma Love and Mine,
Laura

Just thought I'd post a few random updates...
-I'm leaving tomorrow for a mini-vacation (3 days) to San Antonio...the boyfriend and I are driving down there (it's like a 7 hour drive), so that should be interesting...it will be the longest we've been in the car together.
-I started a 16-week course last week at the synagogue to learn more about Judaism
-My collegiate chapter is having a tailgate on Saturday before the football game (they're hosting it jointly with the other Oklahoma chapter whose team we're playing)...I'm excited to go back and visit...it's been too long!
What is everyone else up to?

As for me, I'm surviving my first semester in grad school. It's been challenging but I enjoy it.
On a Tri Sigma note, I visited my collegiate chapter yesterday to welcome my new GRANDLITTLE! She's adorable!
I'm so proud of my girls as a whole because they've managed to get 22 new members this semester!
