It appears that my local beer store has already pulled the summer beers and started stocking fall beers. WTF it's still 90 degrees! Anyway, I saw that Magic Hat has a fall seasonal that I'm looking forward to trying...but not for another month or so.

when i am not with child i loooove Killians, and not from the bottle either. i want it straight from the tap. hubby loves Yuengling and Heineken, neither of which i am a huge fan of. Budweiser Select isnt that bad either. im so glad ive grown up from my Corona w/lime days

That's interesting; I guess it was a move they had to make at some point, but I can't imagine them putting out a good seasonal draft. I'll have to see if I can find it around here and give it a try.

One of the things that Sam Adams has going for it is Jim Koch, the company's founder. When you listen to him in interviews and the such, it's obvious that he's someone that really appreciates good beer, and markets a lot of his products to those who aren't your average beer drinkers.

There are a bevy of winter beers out now. Mr. LH and I had some Dominion Winter Brew on Friday which we both enjoyed. When I have a "good" beer it usually takes me one bottle to kind of get into it and I enjoy the second one more, which is what I found with this beer. It also helped to put it into a pint glass to let it "ventilate" if you will.

The Dayton (OH) Daily had an article on winter beers, you can read the article here. They also mention the Dominion beer as one of the best "hoppy" winter beers.

Winter seasonal-style beers are often breweries' best offerings of the year, and they run the gamut of flavors from white ales to black stouts. Some toss in spices you might expect this time of year, with a higher alcohol content for warming purposes being a common characteristic. There are at least 30 from which to choose now available in the Dayton area that would make a beer lover joyful and triumphant.

Thanks for the link; glad to see they mentioned Sam Adams Old Fezziwig, which is a solid beer. Now I really want to try the Rogue offering; I've never had anything of theirs that I didn't love. Plus, "Yellow Snow" is just a fantastic name for a beer.

Yeah I'd like to try one of the spice beers...I think Old Fezziwig and maybe the Harpoon are the only two I'd be able to find down here. I don't recall seeing any of those other brands in the stores I usually go to, however there is a gourmet market not too far away that carries beer and might have some different brands. Maybe I'll check it out this weekend.

Also, both the Rogue and the Anchor beers are brewed differently every season - I haven't had this year's but I expect BIG THINGS JERRY.

On the less-incapacitating yet more delicious tip we find Dale's Pale Ale. It's a "huge, voluminously hopped motha of an ale," according to the slogan. "We like to use lots of words that we don't know what they mean," confides the ball-capped salesman. Dale's will soon appear in NYC—and surely surprise drinkers. This Rocky Mountain ale comes in a can, and it doesn't make you feel like a frat boy. Dale's is a smooth hopped beer with a creamy head, the type of sud you could slurp till the world splits in two.

(Very good stuff - one of the first 'craft' brews in a can. With every 12-pak comes a plastic bag for disposing of the empties.)

The husband had some of the Old Fezziwig last night, I'll have to ask him what he thought. It smelled good to me, but at this point almost all beers are smelling good.
