? about nosebleeds ---gross content---
Do any of ya'll have chronic nosebleeds?
I've already had 3 big ones in the past 2 days. Like, just a few hours ago I was driving home and my nose just started bleeding like crazy. Also, a few weeks ago I woke up in the middle of the night and my pillow had a puddle of blood soaked in to it. (I'm talking like 3 inches across of just red). I figure it's not seasonal because I have at least 1 nb a week no matter the season. I just can't pinpoint why I'm having them so bad. Oh, and I don't take any meds beside my birth control, so I'm pretty clueless!
Any suggestions/help?
---Kayla

That really sucks for you. I'm sorry.
Is your home or work really dry, airwise? I used to have a lot of nosebleeds for awhile growing up. Then the folks bought a humidifier - life was good after that. Except for the occassional 'athletic' nosebleed - i.e. volleyball/basketball to the face.

I had one today and one yesterday. I think it's from the medicine I am taking for my eye infection since it happen almost immediately after I used the eye drops. It took about half an hour to stop them.
In your case I suggest that you talk to a doctor. You might need some blood work.

Agreed. You'll almost certainly show up anemic due to how much blood you've lost recently, but the doc should be able to tell you more.
Nosebleeds can be an indicator of a lot of serious blood disorders (including von Willebrand's disease, which I have - a clotting disorder.)
Of course, it can also just mean you're prone to nosebleeds. I dated a guy freshman year who got them ALL the time. Just ran in his family. Decades ago they used to cauterize the capillaries in the nose to stop the problem, but not anymore....

My doctor said heavy nosebleeds most often mean allergies. It doesn't have to be to just seasonal things. My nose used to bleed really heavily, for like 10 min. at a time and at the most random moments (in the car, in class, while I slept, whereever). That's when we found out that I was allergic to cig. smoke (which was shame on my chain-smoker mother). It made my nose so sensitive that it would just bleed off and on for days at a time (even if I hadn't been around smoke for a few days, it was still sensitive). It developed really suddenly, so there might be something irritating you that never did before (which is why you can't pinpoint it). Talk to your doctor and see if you can think of anything you might be allergic to that you weren't before. It might still be hard to pinpoint, b/c this went on for YEARS before we figured it out, so you've really got to think back to when it started.

I've had them before... but never anything THAT serious. Mostly because it was from the dry atmosphere at my job.

i had a real problem with nosebleeds when i went to lake tahoe - a couple times a day my nose would just start bleeding, even at night. once we got down closer to sea level it stopped. i think part of it had to do with my allergies though.

Go get it checked soon. Sometimes it can be from high blood pressure.
If ya cant get to your doctor, go to a wal mart or someplace that has the free blood pressure checks... just to rule that out.

Sometimes when I am about to get a cold I get a bunch of nose bleeds. Like someone else said, it could be that the environment around you has dry air.

Yea, I get about 2-3 nosebleeds a week. It's gotten better since I moved to DC since it's so humid here. Mine originated from taking Accutane 6 years ago.

Ya know, I never thought of that!
-------
I don't think it's because of the dryness, I live in a valley and right beside a pond and next to the Ohio River It's actually really humid here, heh. Also, rule out the high blood pressure, mine is actually quite low. However, I am taking the advice for the bloodwork. I'm going to my doc pretty soon anyway, so I'll have her do some tests.
Thanks! Kayla
PS- My fiance still thinks I have a brain tumor because of these damn things, lol!
