The problem is that it's not as easy to define as BGLOs are.
And what does it mean?

After reading this "hijacked" thread, I felt a couple of comments need to be made regarding nomenclature. 1) From the perspective of an (this!) African American BGLO member, the "racial" identification of different groups simple reflects historical realites, nothing more and nothing less. So for someone to employ the term "WGLOs" is not meant to be pejorative a bit. This may be an area where there is a perceptional difference amongst caucasians and non-caucasians. 2) Heuristic terms (labels) are only good as their explanatory power. This goes for the cartography of GLOs also. Some respondents, who don't like the term WGLO, use the term NPC or NIC to refer to the same groups. Surely this will not do as it regards the NIC-member groups, which includes two BGLOs, Kappa Alpha Psi and Iota Phi Theta. (And, as most of you may know, some large and old-line "white" fraternities are not members of the NIC,e.g., SAE, etc.) So if membership in a specific council may not have the perfect explanatory power which the racial tag, as a historical indicator (and largely present day also) does have, what does? 3) There seems to be a need for some enlightenment by members of non-BGLO orgs. None of these groups have exclusionary clauses; as one respondent said, some never did, and others like my own expunged them in the late 40s or around abouts (Omega Psi Phi,1949). More importantly,no major GLO I know of has any de jure regulations regarding racial exclusionary clauses. In fact all BGLOs have members of all ethnicities. The difference is that BGLO don't trumpet this. Maybe the "psychological burden" of this historical reality amongst the historically "white" groups makes this a more sensitive issue for them. What's important here is understanding grounded in goodwill and truth, the real foundation for more growth in healthy interpersonal and interorganizational relations.
"Que Psi Phi 'til the day I die!"

It may. Who said it did or didn't?
By the way, Chicago is a city in Illinois since we're saying irrelevant things.

Wolfman tried to take this stab at trying to explain what some folks are referring to as WGLO but I still don't see a list.
Again, if you want it to go both ways, I hope you're not upset that people will now consider Sigma Gamma Rho an Asian GLO.

That would only be true if people took what you post as absolute gospel. So I'm not worried.
Perhaps you should be more upset with greeklife33, since she referred to "WGLOs".

Wolfman - great post!

gotcha!
This thread is allllllllllll the way in left field. Just respect each others wishes to not refer to organizations solely by their dominate racial makeup.

I'm not upset with anyone. Using your faulty logic, people would only be upset if "people took what you post as absolute gospel".
I'm just saying that Sigma Gamma Rho is an Asian GLO. I'm hoping nobody will be upset.

Trust me, they aren't.
So answer a question for me Rudey: why'd you get so upset cause I asked a question? Or is that not allowed on GC?

Who got upset?
I don't make the rules on Greekchat so I don't create what is and isn't allowed.
Can I accuse you of being upset by someone saying Sigma Gamma Rho is an Asian GLO like you accused me?

Well, I'm looking at the facts. I asked a question, and you jumped to "let's call her sorority something else, when she was just asking an innocent question."
I never gave any type of response that would lead someone to believe that I was upset over anything that you said.
If you don't remember, here's a recap:
Quote:
BGLOs are committed to the black community. NPC/NIC organizations are not. It's that simple. Hence they are not WGLOs. And many do not have exclusionary clauses.
-Rudey
|
I then said that NPHC orgs don't have exclusionary clauses.
Then you said:
Quote:
Who said they did? I didn't think they did. Thanks for the info. By the way Chicago is a city in Illinois.
-Rudey
|
Then I said:
Quote:
Once again, Rudey missed the point.
I don't care what you want to be called, I just wanted to know why the word "white" is so offensive.
But if you want to focus on list of orgs, more power to you!
|
To which you replied:
Quote:
Perhaps you don't understand because Sigma Gamma Rho is an Asian GLO?
Do you have a list of white GLOs yet since you know so much or no? Still need time? Oh OK!
-Rudey
|
So once again Rudey, why the theatrics? Why not give a reasonable response, which answers the question? Were you just trying to make a diversion?
