hey everyone as a PNM i am getting quite excited for rush and since one of my favorite hobbies is reading i figured i would combine the two. Do you guys suggest any books that relate to rush/sororitys in anyway? Thanks so much
Also sidenote but ive been dying to ask...
Is what you wear really THAT important? its been stressing me out a bit...

Well, you can get all the advice you need for free on Greek Chat. The General Advice thread that adpiucf put together is really comprehensive.

Err on the side of neat and classic and you should be good almost anywhere. Different Panhellenics will have different levels of dressiness for each round, so go by what they suggest. If there are no suggestions on the website, most likely your Rho Gamma (Rho Chi, Pi Chi, Gamma Chi, etc) will tell you, and if not, ask! It will depend on the campus and the chapter if it is important to have certain brands. One of my pledge sisters always told the story about how she was turned off by another chapter when they returned her coat to her; the active blatantly looked to see the label.

I wouldn't know what to suggest as far as reading materials go. A lot would probably depend on the location and school. Also, there is too much fiction out there that does not represent Greek life well at all. I'd stick to local and national websites of the chapters you will be rushing. Have you visited all of them yet?

Don't let the dress issue stress you out. Follow suggestions by Panhellenic and maybe step it up a small notch to be on the safe side. Dress how you will feel most comfortable (but appropriate for the situation) because you want to find the organization that you will be most comfortable with. For example, don't wear designer labels if you are not a designer label type of person. Mutual selection in the recruitment process requires you to be a true to yourself in order to find your right organization. Finally, if you have to ask if something is appropriate or not, don't take the chance and leave it at home.

I would agree with what the previous posters said about clothing - pay attention to your school's Panhellenic website, look at the sorority webpages, definitely find clothes you're comfortable in, and of course, read up on Greek Chat threads because there is a ton of information available here.

As for books, there really aren't many (or any) accurate books out there on recruitment from the PNMs side IMO. I would say if you're nervous about all the talking that will take place, there are several books out there to read. Some of the ones I have liked are:

"The Fine Art of Small Talk" by Debra Fine
"How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie

I saw this author speak at our convention, and she seemed really interesting! I couldn't believe some of the bull our founders and their contemporaries had to go through back in the day. Dang!

And as much of a reader that I am, I am sorry to say that just about the only book I read that even touches on this matter is Pledged and I would NOT suggest reading that prior to rush as a rushee.
Save it for a good laugh on a trip.

Jon, don't trifle with me. Why don't YOU re-read the OP's posting? It asks for any books that are related to rush and sororities, because she's excited. She says she reads as a hobby/for pleasure. She does NOT ask for advice books because she's confused or something.
