Explosion in Times Square

NEW YORK - An explosive device caused minor damage to an empty military recruiting station in Times Square early Thursday, shaking guests in hotel rooms high above "the crossroads of the world."
Police blocked off the area to investigate the explosion, which occurred at about 3:45 a.m.. No one was injured. The blast left a gaping hole in the front window and shattered a glass door, twisting and blackening its metal frame.

"If it is something that's directed toward American troops than it's something that's taken very seriously and is pretty unfortunate," said Army Capt. Charlie Jaquillard, who is the commander of Army recruiting in Manhattan.

He said no one was inside the station, where the Marines, Air Force and Navy also recruit.

Witnesses staying at a Marriott hotel four blocks away said they could feel the building shake with the blast.

Hmmm...I wonder if the phone in the White House rang?

No, but they might get up that early! You know, hit the early bird special, go home and crash, get up around 2am (after a solid 8 hours sleep) for a little civil disobedience...

As have I.
And now there is a new "twist" to this:
Capitol Hill letters linked to Times Square blast

No injuries in pre-dawn attack on military recruiting station

NEW YORK - Police are investigating letters that arrived Thursday at Capitol Hill offices containing a photo of the Times Square military recruiting office before it was bombed and including the claim "We Did It."
Police and the FBI are also revisiting an incident at the Canadian border last month to determine whether there is a connection to the Times Square blast, WNBC.com reported. .....

Updated Report:
Letters, Times Square blast just a coincidence?

NBC: Officials find alleged sender, see no link to attack on recruiting office
NEW YORK - Law enforcement officials tell NBC News they believe they have identified the man who sent letters to several Capitol Hill offices that contained a photo of the Times Square military recruiting office before it was bombed and the words "We Did It."
The letters, which arrived Thursday and at first glance appeared to take credit for Thursday's pre-dawn bombing, are not believed to be connected to the blast, officials said.
The alleged letter-sender was being questioned, but there was no indication he committed any crime, officials said. ....

Increases in security???
NYC never stepped down.
NYC never closes down. Well hardly ever.
Open for business as always.
This is the third small explosion, excluding steam pipe and water main, in past few years.
A building collapse caused more disruptions in NYC's operations than this did. The building was very close to Metro North rail lines. Shut down all train traffic out of GCT right before and during evening rush hour.
