Sweeney Todd (Another Depp/Burton collaboration)
Hmmm...initially when i found out this was based on a musical...didn't have high hopes, however the cast has swung me in the other direction.
Trailers have looked good so far.

I LOVE Sweeny Todd and I am SOOO excited for this.
Sweeny is NOT your typical musical by any stretch.

I am going the day it comes out. I love Depp/Burton, but I love Alan Rickman even more. I saw a small clip from the movie with him, and it just sent chills down my spine!

One of my all time favorite musicals.
I saw the original Broadway production (on Broadway, original cast) and the more recent revised version - where all the actors are also the orchestra - here in San Francisco (touring company but most of the actors were in the original Broadway cast). Both amazing productions.
I have always wondered how they could convey the live theatre experience of Sweeny Todd to film. But with Burton, Depp, and Carter, I have a feeling this will not disappoint.

Reason: Burton is great, but no need to list him twice

Attend the tale of Sweeny Todd.
He serves a dark and a vengeful god.

What happened then, well that's the play,
and he wouldn't want us to give it away...
Not Sweeney
Not Sweeney Todd

I saw it tonight.
I was both impressed and disappointed. The singing was better than expected, and the overall stage presence of Carter and Depp was extremely strong. It's difficult when you have a murderer, a woman who makes corpses into pies, a beggar, a judge that knowingly wrongly convicts people and sentences them to death, etc to find someone to sypathize with, but the whole cast does a great job of really making you feel what they feel.
I was completely disappointed that THEY CUT "ATTEND THE TALE OF SWEENEY TODD". WTFWTFWTF??? That's like when they cut the 3rd verse of "The Phantom of the Opera" in the movie version, except worse. How do you totally cut the title song??
I was also a bit disappointed at how gorey they let it get. A little fake blood for effect is great - a gushing river of katsup is overboard.

I love this movie, but I HATED this too. I was seriously cringing at some points because it was a bit much.
