Repping Alpha to the Fullest

Brother Greeks,
I just returned from my chapter's Founders Day celebration. Part of the program was having past scholarship recipients and Del Teen/Delta Academy/Delta GEMS participant talk about the impact our activity had on their lives.

One young man got up to speak and I noticed he had on a black suit and a tie with a yellow background. My first thought was he looked like an Alpha. But thinking that he was still in high school I dismissed the thought and figured his parents had just taught him how to dress for occasions like this.

He began speaking and was very articulate. He talked about how over the years since he was 12 years old there were certain women in his life who helped him turn his life around. He said at the time he did not know they were Delta and even if he had it would have meant nothing to him.

He went on to talk about receiving the scholarship and going to college--the U. of MN. (That's when I realized he was older than I thought.) He chronicled all of the leadership activities he has done up to now, his junior year, while mainting a 3.33 GPA. In listing his affiliations, he saved the best for last--Alpha Phi Alpha in which I believe he said he serves a role on the district level.

I wanted to share this with you, because this young man did A Phi A proud! My sorors were just awed as if he was a novelty. But to me he was just another great example of the men of Alpha Phi Alpha.

Thank you for sharing that story with us. I love it. I love to hear how the Bruhs are doing thangs out in the world, and since ALPHA seeks no man, but only great men seek ALPHA, he must be a bad boy - bad meaning great of course.

Wonderful story... It makes me feel good when I hear or witness stories like this. I love to see a brother (Alpha or not) who is maintaining above a 3.0 and still making a difference.

I am always enamored by people who can speak well....
