Christmas Bonus...

Ok, here's the deal. My daughter has been going to a home daycare for about 6 months. Its a woman and her sister-in-law, and they are very good with Mariana. She goes there two days a week and I pay them $5/hour (their set price). I'm wanting to give them a little Christmas bonus. Anyone have any idea how much is appropriate???

whatever a week's pay would be is standard in service industries as I understand it.

That's what I always heard, too. There used to be a feature like that in "Good Housekeeping" every year in the December issue...it was a list with suggestions on how/what to give the postman, your hairdresser, etc.

Are these people illegal immigrants or something? I believe children in sweatshops in Bangladesh make more than that sewing my New Balance sneakers.

$5/hour/per kid

They can have up to 4-5 kids each, depending on age, and there are 2 of them.

$5/hour * 4.5 kids each * 2 of them = $45 an hour.

I've never paid more than $40 per kid per day for day care anywhere. Many places are less than that.

I guess it's just because I worked at a daycare at a country club, but those parents were paying a lot more than $5/hour.

Yes, that does make a difference. Plus I pay an "event" babysitter a little more an hour then my regular one.

At the country club (yeah, I am really ritzy like that sucka!) that I use to work at they had this daycare that all the hot HS/college chicks from CSUF or Chapman University use to work at.

They took care of like 20 little brats. All those girls got paid like 12 dollars and hour.

But then again they worked for the man.

Oh and hey AlphaFrog.

I think you should get them a book on "Not gettin knocked up"

ETA:

Or " If you Do get Knocked up, how to lose weight"

That would be their Xmas bonus. Or one of those Danish cookies

I worked at the same country club.

What Bobby didn't tell you is that he was a cabana boy for all the rich old ladies. He brought them cosmos while they sat at the pool.

This is very funny.

BOBBY= CABANA BOY

I think a week's salary is good. You really can't tip the people who care for your precious angel too much.

Once again Bobby, you are the epitome of helpfulness.

And I wouldn't wish those Danish cookies on anyone...one of our plumbing suppliers brought us a huge tin and they are SOOO addicting.

I thought that seemed low too... but I live in San Francisco where min. wage is 8.50 and I've NEVER earned less than 6.50 and I earned 11.00 an hour working at the after school program at the recreation center when I was 17.
