Ball State: Officers investigate dead animals in house

Officers investigate dead animals in house

November 18, 2005

Authorities are still investigating why four dead animals – a doe, buck, coyote and possum – were found scattered throughout the house of an off-campus fraternity on Nov. 10.

Christine Dely, Delaware County Health Department environmental health specialist, said she arrived at the Delta Gamma Iota house, located at 2101 W. Jackson St., at about 1 p.m. after the police had been called.

Authorities found the doe in the kitchen, the coyote in the living room, the buck in the downstairs laundry room and the possum in the bathroom. Dely said she was unsure whether the animals were the result of a prank or if they were roadkill.

“I doubt that they all walked in and died,” Dely said. “Someone brought them into the premises. Now who did that, I have no idea.”

Dely said she condemned the house for a day while Service Master sanitized the carpets and walls. She also talked to some of the eight students who live in the house, but they did not know how the animals ended up there, she said.

Members of Delta Gamma Iota on Thursday declined to comment about the incident until the investigation is complete. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is investigating because the incident involved wild animals.

Delta Gamma Iota is not affiliated with Ball State’s Interfraternity Council but is an independent fraternity recognized by the university.

Lol.

That's probably not the worst thing ever found in a frat house.

As a fairly active alum from Ball State, I have never heard of Delta Gamma Iota as a recognized group. It also isn't anwhere on their webpage. My gut tells me this is a group of guys who just call themselves a "fraternity". Notice how the letters are switched around from GDI?

This also remindes me when I was in school, we had a brother, who for a class, had to collect roadkill. Unbeknownst to me, he was keeping it in the freezer at the house. Imagine my reaction when I opened the freezer door

BSUPhiSig'92 is right. They're still around and Ball State still doesn't recognize them. They're a group of guys who hate greek life and basically do all of the "frat" stuff without being an actual fraternity. So basically party. To my knowledge there's another "chapter" at IU, and that's it.
