What if....?

i'm going to hit u all on the spiritual side for a second.

what if Jesus did not come to earth all those years ago but was born of a virgin in the year 1970 in a laundry room of a motel that had no vacancy.
the year is now 2000. what if he is now teaching that the only way into the kingdom of heaven is through him. would u compare him to David Koresh and other cult leaders? would u so readily accept his perfoming of mericles? what if we were still waiting on the messiah in the year 2000 and had no new testament but only the old testament?

just a few questions to make u think

If that happened I would probably be like the Jews and believe that the messiah hasn't arrived yet. And yes, I would probably compare him to David Koresh and other cults out there.

I think that's why God sent Jesus to earth the time he did. By the year 2000, people's mind would be filled with too much science to believe.

I think this is a scary thought as well.
Once I attended a forum at school about the Rastafari and their beliefs. The purpose of the forum was to clear up the sterotypes and educate. I found it VERY informative and interesting. A lot of their following makes sense. But they also believe that the SECOND coming of the Messiah has already come in the form of Halle Sellasi I <sp>. I'm not saying I'm ready to drop my beliefs and accept this as truth. But I couldnt help but think the exact same question you posed Rhoyal: What if the Messiah came and were walking the earth? Would I accept him? Would I be skeptical? What if he does come in our lifetime and I'm not ready to believe it?
I dunno yall, it really is a scary thought.

What an interesting question!!! I think several things would happen. First, if this little 14-15 year old chick said an angel came to visit her and told her she would give birth to the Messiah then her folks would have probably taken her to the first doctor (GYN & PSYCH) they could find. After the psych concluded that she was not delusional (sp?) and the GYN confirmed that she was indeed a virgin (there are ways...) it would make the evening news. Then her Cuddin (you know how we do!) Lizzie (Elizabeth), with her pregnant old self, would show up talking about her baby leaped in her womb when Mary showed up. Folks all over the country would hear about it and shake their heads at the poor crazy people and speculate that Mary's father had actually raped her and that she was suppressing memories to releave herself of the trauma. After Mary had the baby all of the OT scholars would come out and prove that he is fufiliing the prophecies. Other folks would include them in the crazy group and scientists would be on Nightline, CNN, 20/20, etc. 'proving' that it is scientifically impossible for a woman to get pregnant with out sperm.

Fast forward 30 years and Jesus is going around doing miracles and such. Some people will see things with their own eyes and still not believe. Other folks will not even see and believe.

But, to answer your original questions...Since I know that I did not choose Him, but He chose me, I would say Yes! I would believe again 'cause He would choose me again!! Thank you Jesus for the gift of salvation!!

i posted this because i am reading a very interesting book called ELI written by Bill Myers. so far the book is really, really good. i can't wait to see how it will turn out.
but it poses this same question. i thought about it and i think i probalby be one of those skeptics also.

The popularity of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I is due largerly to the fact that he could trace his lineage back to King David. And, with the shotr-lived popularity of the "Back to Africa" Movement led by Marcus Garvey, many people were ready for the return of the Messiah, and lo and behold, Ras Tafari was coronated as Haile Selassie, which means "Might of the Trinity" not long after. And much mystery, and Biblical coincidences have occurred in his lifetime to lead Rastas to believe that H.I.M. was the Second Coming if Christ.

But, back to the whole "Cult" thing, I don't think that real devout Christian could follow a man like Koresh because: 1), the Bible has made specific references to the coming of Our Lord, so the birth, life, and teachings of Koresh-like other wanna-bes would not fit the details outlined in the Bible, and 2) How's the Messiah gonna wear glasses? How is he supposed to lead us to the Promised Land, and he can't see 2 feet in ffont of him?? Just wanted to know...

I dont know if you were joking StraightBOS, but I once heard a comedian say that.
But you also have to expect the unexpected. When Jesus came the first time, he wasn't perfect. He was HUMAN. The second coming might be buck toothed, with glasses, braces, one leg and his hair fried, died and laid to the side! You never know... that's the scary part.

I disagree that Jesus was not perfect when He was born...if He was not perfect, then He would not have been able to redeem us.
Also, the Bible says in the book of Revelation that He shall return with the sound of mighty trumpets, ALL will see Him coming (not just a select few), and the righteous who died before His second coming will rise to meet him in the air. Therefore, when He comes again, we ALL will know it.

I don't know that I would have believed He was Christ in those times (had I been alive then), but I know the good Lord had a reason for bringing me into existence at the time that He did!

When I was a little kid and forced to go to Hebrew school (yes, my Jewish mother forced me to go to Hebrew school), we learned that we don't really know what Jesus though about himself. We really don't know if he said or thought that he was the son of God. All we really know about Jesus is what is written of him in the Gospels, by people who lived many years after his death.
