Diamond Sis Revealing Ideas! Help!

Hey everyone!

I am NMC for 2005 and I am putting together my Alpha Plans. I really want a new diamond sis revealing idea, but I am having trouble thinking of any on my own. Our chapter reveals Diamond Sisters on Bid Day (we have to) and it is someone the Alpha knows from talking to her during recruitment. Anyone have any ideas for me? It is much appreciated!

Have you asked your TME Director for District V? She should have a lot of ideas that are appropriate.

The TME Director, CPD and Exec must approve your Alpha Ed Plans!

Ideas:
* A candle lighting serenade
* Matching gifts (alphas are given a tshirt, a lion with a unique ribbon tied around his neck)
* The alpha reads the first part of a poem and the delta finishes it
* Talk to your adviser, CPD or TME Director for more ideas

Please preface your diamond sister reveal by explaining the following:
With the way ADPi TME is structured, a Diamond Sister is not intended as a best friend forever. ADPi doesn't have Big Sis/Lil Sis programs and families. Instead, we have prides. You have a chapter full of sisters with which to develop special bonds of sisterhood. A Diamond Sister is your personal sponsor and go-to person through your alpha member period. It is hoped you will both make an effort to spend time together and will develop a special bond.

Please make sure that your reveal plans are approved by Exec Board, CPD and TME Director prior to reveal (part of the Alpha Ed Planning Outline). Any changes need to be approved.

At no time, may your reveal include any sort of hunt or quest, including the old string game where you wind string through the house to find your diamond sis on the other side. This is not allowed in current ADPi practices, for liability reasons. Make sure everything is approved before you do it.

ETA- It may seem there are a lot of rules concerning new member activities, but Greeks have come under a lot of scruitiny by NPC, University administrators and lawmakers over the past 30 years. Please use discretion and honor these rules-- respecting the rules and the decision makers are part of our oath and obligation to being members of the sorority and there are reasons why these policies have been adopted. There are still plenty of ways to have fun and enjoy membership although we have had to part company with some old traditions.

We've played the string game before, and last year we wrote the alphas names on balloons. They each had to find their balloon in a room full of other ones, pop them, and inside was the name of their diamond sis. At this point, with everything being considered hazing, we ought to just list diamond sister pairs on a piece of notebook paper, but then again someone might get offended at that.

That sounds really cute, Lindsey - I really like the balloon idea!

Not "everything" is considered hazing, but I will say I am offended by these words. I feel it implies that chapters are above following sorority resolutions that have been voted upon in past conventions. And those voting upon these resolutions are our own collegiate presidents and alumnae directors. And the collegiate presence in this voting far outweighs the alumnae representatives.

I do love your idea, though, about balloon popping. We did something similar in my high school newspaper group (way too many years ago!) to find out which section we were assigned to for our big prom issue-- everyone sat on a balloon, or popped it with a pin to find the sheet of paper with the section editor's name on it! Lots of fun!

Thanks!!

adpiucf- I am aware of everything you said. I know all of the rules about hazing, and have been well informed by the NMC before me, my advisor, and I have read through nearly all the rules. I also know everything has to be approved. Our chapter does a great job of keeping everythign running smoothly and having everyone follow rules. Thanks for your input!!

As far as the idea of balloon popping, that would be hard for us to do since we reveal them on Bid Day. After the girls recieve their bids, we do pictures and everything. Then everyone gets a little break and we have a bid day party that night at someone's house. ( we don't have greek houses on campus) At the party is when the diamond sisters get revealed. In between the stuff on campus and the party, the NMC (myself) and the MEVP will pair up the diamond sisters. That's where I'm having the problem. I need something fun that we can put together in between the two activities.

Thanks everyone!

What would make it easier for you is to ask for diamond sister volunteers prior to bid day that way you put their names in balloons a few days before and spend the time inbetween your events just matching girls up. At that point all you have to do is make sure each girl gets the right balloon.

Some other ideas you can do if you're doing it at a party, have ice cream and on the bottom of the alpha's ice cream bowls take a piece of cardboard, write the diamond sisters name and stick it in a ziplock bag. Then pour ice cream on top that way the alpha will eat her ice cream and when she finishes it off theres the name of her diamond sis on the bottom of the bowl.

Another idea would be to get a little puzzle, write the diamond sisters name on it, break it up an give the pieces to the alpha to put together to figure out the name.

You could have the alphas receive a cute frame decorated by the diamond sis.....include the diamond sis' picture in it! A great gift and the start of a great picture collection!!

Would your budget include having different color baseball caps, or all the same color, but with the names or another decoration on them? That way, if say, Jennie had on a red cap, and Sara was immediately handed a red cap, they would know that they are Diamond Sisters. Or, if you got all of the same color, the Delta could wear the New Members' cap, and then hand it to her while putting her own cap on.
