What kind of info are you looking for? My chapter does not have a parent's club, but I know of another chapter near by that used to (or still does) have a really good one.

I'll see what I can find!

There is a section in the chapter handbook on chapter relations. It gives some ideas for parent events and newsletters.

here's a bit on what it says:
"A parents' club is an entity that comes together to work for or with the chapter. A parents' club would consist of parents of chapter members who meet twice or more a year to discuss chapter needs, programming, the newsletter and to have fun! Usually, one parent is the liaison to the chapter; and through this relationship, information is exchanged.
...
A parents' club is generally more successful on a campus where the parents (or majority of) live near each other (i.e., commuter school or school that draws students from the same area)."

I'm not sure what stage in the planning process you are at, so it's hard to give advice.

well we just are getting started. we are a commuter school and most of our sisters still live at home. we have had a lot of parent intrest in helping out or wanting to come to some of our events, so we decided that we would like to start one. the problem is we dont know where to start. do we just let them do what they want or do we start it up and kind of stay in control with it or what? just alot of questions that were not sure of.

I'd suggest then that you write a letter to the parents, or create a newsletter, discussing the creation of a parent club.

from what I know, the parents are in charge of the club, but there is supposed to be a parent liaison who talks with the chapter to find out what your needs/wants are.

You could start by planing a parent's day event - maybe a picnic or something, and then at that time announce that you would like to start a parent's club and have parents interested sign up. It seems to me that the parents can have their own meetings, but things they decide to do should be to promote the chapter in some way.

Your chapter could also have a parent relations chairman who might attend the parent's meetings so that there is a liaison there too.

so, it looks like you start it up, but they eventually control it, but you keep them in touch with what you are doing and what you would like them to do.
The chapter handbook does give examples of activities the chapter or parent club can do.

sorry I don't know much, but I'll keep looking!
