NY Times endorses Kerry

Oct. 17 (Bloomberg) -- The New York Times ``enthusiastically'' endorsed Democratic candidate John Kerry for president, saying he has ``the capacity to do far, far better than'' President George W. Bush.

``We look back on the past four years with hearts nearly breaking, both for the lives unnecessarily lost and for the opportunities so casually wasted,'' the Times wrote in an editorial published today. ``Time and again, history invited George W. Bush to play a heroic role, and time and again he chose the wrong course. We believe that with John Kerry as president, the nation will do better.''

Kerry, 60, and Bush, 58, remain deadlocked after three debates, according to a Time Magazine poll. Bush has 48 percent of the vote nationwide and Kerry 46 percent, with a margin of error of 4 percentage points, according to the poll of 865 likely voters done Oct. 14-15.

It's not like it's a huge surprise.

But do such publications as the NYT really have any business endorsing a candidate for office?

I don't think anyone's changing their vote because of what the NYT says at this point, so in what way does this help the NYT?

Kind of a boneheaded move in my opinion.

This would have been a news story if the NYT did NOT endorse a Democrat.

I've heard he has a plan for this and a plan for that and a plan for thus and a plan for thou.

Details of all these plans are vague or unknown, but surely include spending more, hiring more govt. workers, and a total lack of accountability.

PS: I predict that the following will also endorse Kedwards:

1 - Atlanta Journal-Constitution
2 - LA Times
3 - Washington Post
4 - Dan Rather
5 - Village Voice

Not endorsing Kewards:

1 - Wheelchair Producers Journal

Shocking news.

Sort of like how the Herald will endorse Bush and the Globe will endorse Kerry.

BIG surprise.

Heard on the radio this morning that major city newspapers have endorsed Kerry 52-22 -- they didn't list the papers.

Here in Denver, the Rocky Mountain News endorses Kerry, the Denver Post hasn't endorsed anyone yet, but it will be amazing if they don't take Kerry, as well.

Not sure any of those endorsements mean anything these days, though.

Who really cares what some editorial board thinks?
