Question Question

i know that when you go through rush the sisters are probably interested in what the rushee has to offer that particular chapter. i was hoping that some sisters could tell me what they look for in rushees(what they want the rushees to contribute to their chapter). thanks so much for helping....i don't know what i would do without these forums.

Listen,

Whether your pledging a fraternity or sorority, the expectations are the same. Don't be fake, always be yourself. Most of us like dedicated, outgoing individuals who will fit in with the group that exists. Study hard, keep your gpa as high as you can, ask all the questions you can think of. They will feel more comfortable with you when they realize how interested in their chapter you are. Most importantly, find out what the details of pledging are. You don't want to start anything you won't have time to finish because of work or classes.

I would like to reply to you about this. I rushed ABC sorority my second semester in frosh year. I was so not a fit for these women. Very snotty, very into their looks and coke, and everytime they said something, I agreed to the point of being a brown-noser. I remember standing there and talking about how I wanted to dye my hair because one of the sisters said that she wanted to do it...I WAS SUCH A GOOBER! Flash ahead a year to formal recruitment, I was more secure in who I was, what I wanted, and was my charming, funny self and was asked back to more pref parties than I expected. My moral: BE YOURSELF! Sisters can spot an potential imposter in under 5 minutes. Also, speak to more than one sister. Let them get to know your face and SMILE!!!!!! One sister cannot vouch as well as to your character as several can. Also, if the conversation is strained and all "How do you like this weather we are having?", you're in trouble!! Just some tips from a rush-a-holic!!

What sisters look for in rushees:

1. girls who seem like they'd get involved and contribute to the chapter... in leadership, desire to do community service, willingness to head committees, etc.

2. girls who fit right in with the sisters... ones who are they same "type" and share similar values and goals. girls who will add to the group that is already there, not ones who will clash with the older sisters.

3. girls who are genuine, fun, and seem somewhat intelligent.

4. girls who didn't do anything too stupid before formal rush, such as hooking up with 3+ guys in the same fraternity, public displays of vomiting, any sort of bad reputation... basically things that would look bad on the whole chapter if the rushee became a sister. they want girls who will maintain and improve their reputation and standing on campus, not ones who will threaten what they have worked so hard to get--respect of other individuals and groups.
