Piercings and Tatooes within the OES

I have 11 piercings (5 holes in each ear and a fresh new belly piercing) and 4 tattoes (all in discreet places - you can't see them without revealing). I am about to be initiated as an OES and I have not yet told them this because my initiation has not started yet and I will be meeting with the "elders" next weekend. How does the Eastern Star feel about this? Will I be asked not to wear my jewelry or hide my tattoes (you can't see them anyway)? Please advise ASAP.

While I can't speak for your particular chapter, it just isn't an issue in mine. Of course, my chapter is mainly older people (like over 65) and I am one of the "young" ones. It's just not something that comes up! BTW, I have 2 tattoos, but no one would know unless we were VERY friendly.

I have never heard of any official policy or rule concerning piercings or tattoos, but perhaps someone else on the board will know for sure.

As far as I know, there is no prohibition on tattoos or jewelry in the Order of the Eastern Star. I cannot speak, however, for the customs and courtesies followed by Prince Hall-affiliated OES. If others can't see those tattoos, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I would, however, keep the wear of earrings to a minimum and dress conservatively for any and all Order of the Eastern Star chapter meetings and initiations. There are still quite a few older ladies who are active members who frown on wearing anything but Sunday-best to chapter.

Within the Grand Chapter of Texas (where I am a member), tradition is that female members wear skirts or dresses and male members wear at least a collared shirt and tie.

Hope this answers your question.
