Game Show Moments w/Black contestants
What's up, Greekchatters:
Last week I was watching Comic View with my (now ex) boo and they were talking about Blacks on game shows. IMHO the jokes were kinda lame. But I want to share with you some clips of some of the more positive (and hilarious) of moments and from time to time throughout this thread I am going to share with you clips of those moments. I am sure you will LOVE them.
As always, you must have RealPlayer capabilities to view, and you can download it for free if you don't have it.
To start off, there are two clips of Black contestants winning BIG $$
The first one is a brother named Johnny on the Card Sharks pilot from 1978. Notice the open shirt/leather jacket outfit. He won the maximum $28,800 total playing the Money Cards. Notice his coolness playing and host Jim Perry trying to "get down" like a soul brother

The next clip involves a Jamaican sister on Treasure Hunt who turned down $950 for what was in the box. Claimed she had that "Jamaica feeling" But did she "Jamaica mistake"?

Speaking of Jamaican women, I will try to get you another clip of a Jamaican woman on the Price is Right which was funny.
Lemme know what you think.

I'll check out the links later, but has anyone ever notice that they don't put more than 2 blacks on SOME (most)gameshows, especially when they WERE really popular? Why was that?
Excluding The Weakest Link (there were like 3 or 4 one ONE panel last week), Family Feud (recently I saw two AA families "going at it"), MAYBE TPIR But not too often there either.
Has anyone else witness this before?

OK, I found a few more:
Two are from the Price is Right:
Here, Alberta gets caught up in the moment and goes wild bidding on a "comfy loveseat"

You may have to type in this address. If this doesn't work, go to this address:
www.fortunecity.com/meltingpot/harrow/953/theatre.htm
Here, Ada wins $13,000 with her play-at-home partner in the phone home game and has a delightful conversation:

One more for now (oh, while this isn't a Black contestant, it is totally HEE-LARIOUS!)
Korean? contestant Sang took almost 90 seconds (a VERY long time) to complete a sprint round on Scrabble and he was just off the chain, largely due to his inability to control his buzzing in. Can you say, BAD TIMING?

Remember, if these links don't work, go to the above www.fortunecity.com address and go there. The pictures will link you to the clips.
Happy viewing.

I think it is because not a lot of blacks audition for these shows to begin with.
HOWEVER, I can say that I have seen two black contestants compete again each other on Match Game every so often, one notable time was during a New Years Eve show, when Match Game '73 became Match Game '74. The thing that made me mad was that unlike some years, the two contestants couldn't stay onstage to witness the festivities with Gene and the Match Game gang.
Now Family Feud has had more black families competing against each other more often in this (Louie Anderson) version than any other (Richard Dawson or Ray Combs).
One thing I am glad to see regarding African-Americans on game shows is more of them on premier episodes of shows. Examples...
Sandy Donell? (The VERY first person to come on down to Price is Right in 1972)
Stanley ?? (Match Game)
Lana Jones (Press Your Luck)
Anyways, lemme dig up some more clips.

Ok, one more set of clips for tonight
These folx are all from The Price is Right and can be seen/heard at one site:
www.tpirsite.com/spotlight/spotlight.htm
These contestants include:
Yolanda (she came on down and "they" came on out)
Toni (played for the most expensive car at that time on TPiR)
Edrie (this little old lady had me cracking up--ease up on the coffee, Edrie. Try some decaf next time).
Brian (GAVE UP $5,000! WHAT THE....)
Ruphina (the Jamaican contestant I mentioned in my initial post. Listen at her bid. Makes you wonder if she had a Jamaica feeling too).
Unfortunately, these are all audio clips only. However, there are photo clips of these contestants in action.
Lemme know what you think.

RainMan,
Now, it was Alberta that had me laughing on these clips. She was too funny. And yes, Ada's conversation was just delightful.

Well, since everyone has asked me what is "Whew", with my saying "Charge!", "Block", and LONGSHOT!, I decided to give them a little sample:
www.whew.tv/gauntlet.rm
This is during the bonus round, aka the Gauntlet of Villians. There is a BIG $25,000 win. Notice how the woman is in such hysterics, you would have thought someone beat her up. Oh, and take a look at the then-famous "Tootsie" look.

Had to bump this up to the top b/c I realized that one of the above contestants would soon be a celebrity in the black comedy world.
That contestant was Reynaldo Rey (competed under his real name Harry Reynolds).
