Georgia House Bans Female Genital Piercings

ATLANTA - Genital piercings for women were banned by the Georgia House Wednesday as lawmakers considered a bill outlining punishments for female genital mutilation.

The bill would make such mutilation punishable by two to 20 years in prison. It makes no exception for people who give consent to have the procedure performed on their daughters out of religious or cultural custom.

An amendment adopted without objection added "piercing" to the list of things that may not be done to female genitals. Even adult women would not be allowed to get the procedure. The bill eventually passed 160-0, with no debate.

What is sad is even Democrats voted for it. I guess because the republicans slipped the piercing in with genital mutilation.

I wonder if this is something NOW would get involved in.

Why do GA law makers care if a woman gets a piercing there?

Maybe they're sexually repressed?

Cool Cool. Wish GA law makers felt that way. First it was the evolution crap now this. Hopefully it will fail just like the banning evoultion thing. So they don't embarrass GA anymore.

God, so many of my friends are going to jail if they ever get found out...

But am I the only one who sees a difference between, say, a clitoridectomy and getting little silver bells hanging from your cooch, cause you like to jingle when you walk?

That's ridiculous. I can see banning that procedure for minors, the mutilation.

But if grown fricing women want to run around with an extra hole, I say go for it.

Re: Georgia House Bans Female Genital Piercings

The bill here is supposed to ban FGM, which is a very harmful "cultural ritual" done to many girls around the world, and in the US. There are many different forms of female genital mutilation, but often the Clitoris is removed, the outer and inner lips are cut away, and the vaginal opeining is sewn shut.

I highly doubt that anyone over 18 in GA is going to get time for getting a normal piercing down there. Besides, the bill is going back to the chamber because of that addition.

I guess, to a certain extent (and please don't kill me for saying this), good for them. People are getting a little too wild in terms of how they dress and where they pierce anyway. I'm all for doing whatever one wants, since it is a free society, but it's just that some people get a little too crazy. I'm always careful as to how I look, dress, etc. My clothes are never too far off from "badge attire". Generally, my regular casual day clothes are perhaps two or so notches below that. I don't even own real jeans.

ETA: I meant non-athletic clothes I wear in public. I wear whatever when I'm at home or if I'm working out.

I do agree that I have seen some people with multiple piercings and tattoos that are extremely visable and have thought "damn! what was he/she thinking...they look ridiculous!" But as someone with unorthodox piercings and 4 tattoos of my own. I think this is ridiculous. I love my tats, but they are also in places that are not always visible. I know that when I go out intothe work force, having my face tattooed will affect my chance of landing a good job. Picecings can be taken out. Genital piercings are very personal and not visible. People who have them don't walk around dropping their pants for every tom, dick and harry (well I'm hoping they don't but some people are a little crazy )saying, look at my piercing.
What anyone has down there is no ones business. If I had one I wouldn't be sharing the fact that I had one with everyone, so why should it matter what people pierce.

But, who are you to tell a person how to look? If you don't like it, don't look at it. I'm like you...I don't dress too funky; but it's all good to me if someone wants to run around with hot pink stripes tatooed all over his/her face!!
