Rush at UCSD?
Hello,
Does anyone know if any of the sororities at UCSD are holding spring recruitment? Or, do any of the chapters participate in COB? I missed formal rush during the fall but still am interested in joining a sorority. Thanks!

Hi Azul33 - I'll find out if any chapters are doing COB/Informal Recruitment at UCSD. One of friends advises the Theta chapter at UCSD and I'll check with her. More info soon...
Also you could check with the Student Organizations/Student Affairs office to see if there are aware of COB.
Best of luck to you!

Theta Sis may be able to get more accurate information but from my understanding, the only chapter currently under total is AEPhi. They just colonized, last month I think. All chapters will hold formal recruitment in the fall. Good luck!!!

This is a bit of a side note, but it kind of corresponds...
I went to look at the Graduate Program for Pacific Studies and International Affairs at UCSD last fall, on campus (I am from the east coast, so this was my first west coast apperance). I was wandering around the student union after my interview, and all of a sudden, this girl comes up to me, and starts telling me that I am in the wrong place, and that the lone for rush is "over there"(She was pointing). I just thought it was funny, because not only do I not go to the school, but I am definantly 21, and have been in my sorority for 3 and a half years. But I was still flattered. Anyhow, beautiful campus, it is still my first choice, if I ever graduate. Good luck with rush!

Chapters that do hold Spring COB will usually post posters the first few days of class. While Otter is correct that Fall Recruitment gives you a chance to meet all chapters, I would encourage to attend COB parties. You could find a chapter that is right for you. Even if you don't, you'll be more comfortable with the recruitment process in the fall if you have some practice under your belt in the spring.

Thanks again, you all have been very helpful. The only reason that I'm eager to rush in the spring is because I am already a sophmore, and would rather find a chapter now than waiting until I'm a junior.

Of course I am a little biased towards AEPhi but since its a colony you may want to give it a little extra consideration. As an upperclassmen you may have more leadership opportunities in a chapter that is just starting out. Plus colonies on all campus alway seems to be more open to rushing non-freshmen.

My perception is that there is not really a problem with non-freshmen rushing at UCSD. My best friend from high school went through rush as a fourth year senior at UCSD (after studying abroad her junior year) and didn't have any problems. I don't think the system has changed all that much since then.

That's true but it has gotten progressively more competitive over the years. I know that seniors are "free" during rush (they don't count towards quota) but I think there is a limit on the number of "free" juniors a chapter can take. Either way, don't worry too much about age! If it's a fit with you and the chapter then that's all that matters. Good luck (again!)!!
