SK Holiday Plans

Hello all-- I thought we needed to rejuvenate our forum a bit, so I figured I would jumpstart things with a question.

What kinds of Sigma Kappa related things are you all doing for Christmas? Any socials, philanthropies, or special charity events?

I am so excited for the Thanksgiving and Christmas season-- I love the holidays-- I need ideas to get me pumped.

Thanks sisters :-)

Sigma Love and Mine,

Our alumnae group is doing a christmas cookie and ornimate exchange, which I am so excited for. We are also wrapping books at Barnes and Noble for donations. It should be fun.
I love the holidays too!!! This time of year just puts me in the best of moods!

We're doing a senior "prom" in the spring too, I think that idea is absolutely adorable, especially around the holidays. A white elephant party? Can you elaborate? That sounds neat!!!

I'm making my lil lil a scrapbook with pictures from bid day, kissing carnations, after initiation, when i got revealed (big/lil revealing) and at numerous philanthropies and sisterhoods, etc. Wish me luck-- I haven't had much time.

The alumnae's group christmas cookie and ornament exchange sounds super cute. How did you get Barnes and Nobles to donate? Books or $$$? That sounds neat!

Thanks ladies,

The wrapping books thing at Barnes and Noble is seperate from the cookie exchange.
For Barnes and Noble, we go there and have a table set up to wrap books people bought for gifts so that they don't have to wrap them. We only take donations an only wrap books bought at barnes and noble. So it is a nice deal for both of us. We don't have to pay them anything or give them a "cut" and it makes them look good because they are supporting a local group by letting us do it.

the white elephant party is where we all bring in a gift thats up to $10 of something that we know we want, so you most likely think that your other sisters would want it too. and then i do believe that we just sort of give them out to each other randomly so we dont really know whos going to get what. ... correct me if im wrong sigkapqueen...

well actually the white elephant party does intail a $10 gift but it always starts with the youngest member of the sorority choosing a gift then goes on to the oldest member choosing a gift. all the presents are wrapped so there is a little surprise. if an older member wanted to take a present that is already chosen she can take it from her and that person can decide to take another wrapped gift or take someone elses'. if she takes someone else's she can not take it from the person who took it from her or an item that was already switched in that round. do you see what i mean? last year everyone faught over the $15 gift certificate to starbucks and one of the ogs of the sorority ended up to get it.

X-mas at Beta Sigma

Well, I personally love Christmas time at my sorority. We go all out with decorating the house. We have tons of lights outside (all white lights) around the pillars, in the bushes, candles in the window, wreath on the front doors and we put up a Christmas tree in the formal. It's a lot of fun and Evan's Scholars has a philanthropy where they judge all of the houses on their outdoor decorations. We won last year and hopefully we will again this year!

Last year I also organized a Secret Sigma gift exchange, which is basically Secret Santa. A bunch of people sign up and I distribute names to everyone and they buy for the person they were given. $15 maximum. It was a lot of fun and we got together one night during finals week and exchanged around the Christmas tree.

I wish we would have a house that we could decorate-- our house is much like dorms, in a huge row with agd and pi phi on either side-- there's no independant house.
