Phi Kappa Psi at Wayne State

Phi Kappa Psi is officially here colonizing at Wayne State. I wish them the best of luck since i'm sure it will be quite a daunting task since the greek system here is about as lively as a senior home. Hopefully these guys can give us the boost that we need.

Sometimes, new blood is exactly what the system needs! PKA (and I'd like to think SIgma Nu) who both recently colonized here at Central Oklahoma (I was a SN colonist ) made a pretty huge impact on the culture of the system. I think this new group may be able to help ya'll out quite a bit.

and not the greatest part of Detroit either...

It's hard for a greek system to be strong at a commuter school. Even though they are trying to build dorms, they are building them in the most run down areas of Detroit.

But I wish them much much much much luck. They will need it...

^ I go to wsu too...but you know..the campus area is not that bad...not until you hit woodward or cass corridor anyway..

PiKA...I know what you mean about the greek system here..it's DEAD..I was thinking of bringing an existing sorority here but I think it would be really difficult. How are your rush turnouts like?

Yeah campus is nice. I used to work there and I went to high school right down the street from Wayne State (Cass Tech). Woodward and Cass Corridor was just a little bit scary

I work with our chapter at WSU and work in the New Center area. Personally, I think the Lodge and Forest is my least fave area.. always a guy standing there with a "Hungry and Homeless" sign and he doesn't LOOK hungry!

BUT, as far as NPC groups, there are currently 4 on campus. Quota is usually between 8 and 10 and generally, 2 of 4 make quota and 2 of 4 don't. Chapter Total is 50 but only a couple chapters are even close to it. Recruitment numbers have been low the past couple years. It is definitely more difficult at a commuter school and I don't think NPC is looking to expand at this point.

And hey.. Off topic a little here.. please tell people to cross 3rd street (Anthony Wayne Dr.) at the lights! One of these days I'm going to cream some student as they dart through traffic .. ugh!

Dee

^ lol..I live right there on forest and 3rd area...I think I am one of those people you nearly run over everyday. Sorry!

But yeah, I hardly see the NPC on campus... I didn't know that they had that low of a turn out I must however say that NPHC sororities and fraternities are more visible this year with all the stepshows and parties at the student center...how come the NPC/IFC don't have parties on campus, just curious?

BTW, the sorority I want to bring here are not part of NPC or NPHC..

I think a lot of it is lack of space. I know the AGDs have sisterhood events near campus.. like at Cass Cafe and Hockeytown. I also know they have some mixers with the IFC groups. But, a lot of their events are held at sisters' houses since they don't have housing down there (and we're not encouraging it!). The new Dean of Students is very pro-Greek and has let them know that there are funds if they want to sponsor campus wide speakers on alcohol, date rape, eating disorders, etc. You're more likely to see them doing that or philanthropy. They are one of our stellar chapters. They have a really high GPA, have strong leadership in other groups, and raise a lot of money for our philanthropy.

If you see a car with a license plate with my GC Nickname on it.. you'll know it's me that hit ya!

Back ten years ago I was part of the beginning of GWU's DC Alpha for Phi Psi! It was pretty amazing but now we have a Uni-supported house and everything so its all worth it!

Good luck and high high high!

Wayne State--Michigan

TKE--once upon a time--had a strong Wayne State chapter with
over 90 actives...don't know what happened, but we have been
gone a long time. There have been 15 nationals there, now only about 4 or 5...Just another inner-city Greek system gone to
hell....perhaps may come back, hope so. Erik P Conard,
TKE

AGDee,

I know the dean of students that you are talking about. Isn't he greek also? Most orgs don't realize that there are funds waiting out there for them to take advantage of...I used to be part of the budget committee (long time ago) and I kept seeing the same orgs take advantage of budget...and some of it didnt even end up getting used up and it went into negative allocation for the next fiscal year.
