raging fires in so calif
Hi all.... I am soo bored right now it isn't funny! I have been stuck at home since Thursday because of the fires in So Calif. Where i am at i can see flames and tons of smoke and ash. The Cajon Pass has blocked me from traveling to work and to school. The fires are like a wall right now. The entire mtn range i see from the second story of my house is all on fire and i cannot get anywhere really. So i have been living on the computer the last few days as it is my babysitter because my 3 yr old is driving me crazy! lol
My brother says his house looks like it has snowed there from all the ash falling.
I just got word all the girls at Cal State San Bernardino are fine. The majority of A Phis live in campus housing or apt complexes surrounding campus and campus was evacauted and closed as the moutains behind the campus caught on fire.
Ok now that i have totally cleaned my house from top to bottom, done laundry and tried to find other things to occupy my time i am going to go fix dinner.

We understand that one of our alumnae members from Cal State San Bernardino, her husband and two children lost not only their home but also all of their belongings. Other Alpha Phis homes seem to have been spared so far.
Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Hey Laura When did you hear that about the CSUSB alum. I talked to Jenny via email a few days ago and she said nothing of it. Though this weekend has done a lot more damage then this last week.
Maybe we could start something for her and her family. I just don't know what.....
Any ideas?????
Laura

That is not true. The school is closed but the a phi house is just fine.
I received an email from Jenny H this morning that confirmed the burn down. The chapter and the alum group are doing gift certificates and have sent around emails about the size clothes for the kids, etc. The email from this morning was a forward from Iwona. You can contact her or if you tell me where you want me to send it I will forward you the email.

i'll let my sisters know and maybe we can start up a collection for her.
Last summer, one of our alumnae from UNCW (who moved to Chapel Hill) was out of town and while she was gone, her house caught on fire and she lost everything. We took a collection and we raised about $300 and sent it to her. seriously, something is more than nothing and i'm sure that she will greatly appreciate anything anyone gives her.
for those out in Southern California: be careful.....they've been reporting about the fires out there and i think the news was talking about NC firemen heading out there to help

It is wonderful to have so much support for a sister in need. When all the fires are put out and we finish getting information about sisters from throughout the southland we will send an email letting everyone know who needs help and how they can help them.
Thank you for all of your support and prayers.
Back to breathing crappy air!

Sorry to hear
I was just looking through your forum and saw the thread. I'm sorry to hear that one of your sisters lost her home and belongings because of the fire. I'm not an Alpha Phi, but just wanted to let you know that I will pass this information on to my sisters of Omega Phi Alpha, and ask them to keep her and her family in their prayers, as well as mine.

California can only endure so much!
Ladies, at this time, our prayers and support are extremely important and needed. I feel that southern Cali is completely surrounded and trapped. If it isnt floods from rainstorms or having to elect a moviestar for governer, its fires started by idiots who feel the need to add onto the problems. My brother is a fireman for the city of Vernon in Los Angeles and has been called down to San Diego to battle the devils breath. i hope and pray that no more deaths occur or property is lost. Already a few of our girls from the Long Beach chapter have missed the week of school to try and save their lives back homes either in the mountains, in north LA or San Diego. As the Goevernator has gone to Washington DC to ask for assitance in a state of emergency, we should join the effort, internationally and help out our alumnea sister and those other sisters who might a little TLC. We aren't sisters Hand in Hand for nothing!

Hi again!
I just got back from volunteering some time at a evac shelter here in town. I was at my HS alma mater where they set up a shelter at Apple Valley.
This post could shed light on a negative aspect of businesses and groups not so caring as i can report some real whoppers , but i tend to think on the positive side because it is truly amazing how ppl are caring and giving in time of need. What ppl will donate in this tramatic time .... the generosity doesnt stop.
I have been severely lectured by my doctor dad that i should not be out in this because i am severely asthmatic Since i have had now 2 attacks in the last 24 hrs, i am now grounded ( at 34). the fires have moved into the hi desert area ( hesperia which is 5 miles away coming down the arrowhead back way) the smoke is thick here. they are trying to stop it from entering the city fo hesperia but it is hitting the outskirts of town and into some parts of Apple Valley. I am a life long so california resident and i have never seen fires like this magnatitude before ever.
In a time like this, it is pretty dang awesome to have sisters who are there to help like everyone is for CSUSB A phi Alum and her family. What little is given is truly appricated in so many way i can imagaine.
anyhow, I just wanted to update everyone on this end regarding the fires. just keep these mtn residents in your prayers they are going to need it. The damage is severe and it isnt even over yet.
aoe,
laura
They say rain is in the forecast and i am truly praying for that.

That is soo extremely awesome of you!
I am not sure if EO knows about this or not but i do know the Alum chapter that she belongs too. The presidents name ( i dont want to broadcast on here for privacy issues so PM me and i will get her her name). I have dual membership in the alum chapter and have all the contact ppl names if you or anyone wish to help this sister and her family out in this time of loss.

It's really wonderful to see this show of support. The office is very aware of what is going on and the regional team and office will be doing something once all phis are able to return to their homes. There are many phis who do not yet know if they've lost their homes or what has heppened b/c they have not yet been allowed back to their homes or neighborhoods.
I will post the email that we distribute in this thread as soon as we find out how many sisters need our help and what exactly they need.
