Thumbs down H.S. Seniors prank in Colorado - similar to the Chicago incident...

Senior prank got out of control; some may not be allowed to walk at graduation created: May 28, 2003 - 7:17 AM

ENGLEWOOD – Englewood High School’s principal will meet with students and parents to discuss participation in Saturday’s graduation ceremony. Principal Robert Barrows says some seniors crossed the line with a series of pranks and that those involved should not be allowed to walk in the ceremony.

Some students say it was just a prank, but administrators say it was over the line.

Students say on Friday, a melee broke out at the end of the annual Farewell Seniors assembly. The senior day got out of hand when some students threw balloons filled with urine, let mice loose in the school and put feces in vending machines.

Tuesday night, the principal came out of a closed door meeting with the school board to talk with parents and students.

Barrows will meet again with students and parents Wednesday morning at the high school to discuss consequences.

A decision is pending on whether the students will be allowed to participate in graduation.

Student body vice president Nicholas Sanchez says he only knew seniors had planned to run through the halls cheering.

EHS students are quick to point out only a few seniors were involved in the incidents.

If these kids had any sorts of brains whatsoever, they'd be following the news enough to realize that now is probably not the best time to be pulling stuff like that.

There's no real excuse for this kind of behavior. But, in terms of the kids knowing about the Chicago situation, when our son came home from college for the summer, he had no idea of what had happened in the hazing incident. Remember that these things happened around finals week -- and the kids can be pretty insulated.

Those last few weeks of senior year consist of meetings, ceremonies, tests, parties and all kinds of other things. I wouldn't have any trouble believeing these kids weren't aware of the Chicago situation.

Having said that, they still went way beyond the bounds of acceptable.

I was also wondering what's up with all this "fun with pee and doodie"! Is it some kind of Freudian thing?

These kids kill me. After watching the video of the students trying to persuade the faculty to let them walk with their class, I wonder how hard the really did work. These students were going on and on about about how hard they work and that they deserved this. Well quite frankly if they did work hard they wouldn't have thrown it all away in 30 seconds of stupidity.
And now they're making demands! They want their diplomas by 3pm on saturdat to hold their own ceremony. I don't think they are in any sort of position to be making demands.
These kids disgust me. The graduation ceremony is a privilage and they lost that. THey should get their diplomas in the mail over the summer, and their summer should be spent doing community service.

I was just wondering the same exact thing? When did it become "cool"?

What happened to old fashioned food fights?

Our idea of a practical joke in HS was to coordinate all of the kids in a class to simultaneously drop our pens. Yeah lame, I know. We didn't think that playing with human waste was cool.

Am I the only one who is thinking of Mr. Hankey the Christmas Pooh?

Wow.. they get their diplomas when they graduate? I just got a stupid folder.. The diploma followed several weeks later.

I'm still waiting on my B.A. diploma after graduating early this month.
