Apartments of the other sex

The apartment essentials thread got me thinking about this. Guys and gals, when you enter the apartment of someone you're seeing for the first time(whether it's to hook up or just meet up with them), what items would make you take notice or help to define their personality? What would you like to see decorating someone else's apartment? What would really bother you?

Odor. It has to smell nice. And how clean is the bathroom, the toilet in particular.

The first time I saw my bf's room I noticed the framed picture of him and his sisters. That implied to me that he had a strong relationship with his family (which is true).

On the flipside, alot of guys have their room plastered with naked pictures which would be a bit much for seeing a guy's place that you're dating.

It would really bother me if I was showing up at my guy's place for the first time and it was GROSS. I have been over to some nasty azz places in my day. I don't care so much if it's really neat, but it needs to be clean. The bathroom, especially, should be clean so that one isn't afraid to touch the toilet, and I appreciate a lack of offensive smells.

Other than that, I'm not too particular. I'm pretty sure that all guys look at porn at some time or another, but I really wouldn't want to see it laying around all over the place. I would also like it if his apartment indicated that he has taste similar to mine -- for example, I like old buildings with hardwood floors and big windows, so I'm going to be more impressed by such a place than by, say, a carpeted, more modern apartment in a high rise or complex or something. The idea of living in a high rise freaks me out, and I don't know that I would have a lot in common with someone living in one.

When I get my apartment next month, I am prolly gonna put framed pictures of myself all over the place.

I might even put a giant poster of myself right above my bed so I can remind myself how good I look before I sleep and when I wake up.

Porn doesn't bother me, but I do get weirded out when he has pictures of his ex posted all over the place. Usually those guys haven't gotten over their ex yet and aren't really ready to move on. The weirdest one I've seen was where this guy almost had a kind of shrine. I didn't go back over there...

The guy I'm seeing now has pictures all over of him playing with his niece and nephew, which are like 2 and 10 months, respectively. From a female standpoint, that says a lot in regards to good family relationships and the fact that he likes kids (not saying that I necessarily want to have kids with this guy, but you know what I mean!).

I'd probably check the fridge out too come to think of it ... a guy who has more than a six-pack and cheese spray is a keeper. Guys who can cook are the best!

check the sink to see how many dirty dishes are in it, and check to se if the garbage looks like it has been taken out recently (or to see whether it is overflowing)

I take a look in the medicine cabinet as soon as possible. If she's got any of that Monistat crap, I'm out of there. I also look at what's on the bookshelf because that says a lot about a person.

Ah, come on! Eating the wrong foods or taking medicine can bring that on, and it's probably happened to girls you've dated before. You might just not have known it.

I check out the pictures also.. *nods* Family photos are a big thing and/or friend pics.
Also if you can actually walk through the bedroom, if it's a work-out just to get to the other side of the room, he's not worth the time, lol. Because if he doesn't have enough time to pick up his clothes he doesn't have enough time for me.

I take a look at the pictures. I like to see pictures of the guy with his family.
What I hate is walking into an apartment that is disgusting. I don't mind seeing a bit of dirt here and there but a friend of mine has an apartment that is a trash/garbage/rotting food obstacle course. And it smells like crap. The worst part is that if he had rats he'd probably never know because his apartment is piled in garbage.

I've found myself checking out pictures, overall decor, and yes, the shoes.

When the closet's open and I see some really weird article of clothing, he points out that it was for a social and then I breathe a sigh of relief.

Lately I've been looking around trying to figure out what to get the boy for Christmas. I'm going crazy!
