If you're married or engaged...
...how did he propose? Or if you're a man, how did you propose?
KappaStarboy/SigEpRaider and I have known for more than a year that we would get married, and we we went ring shopping together, but I didn't know quite when I was going to get the ring, or where, or exactly what it was going to look like (I tried on a few different styles and let him know which ones I liked). At the beginning of July, we had to book the chapel where the wedding will be, because you have to book a year in advance. For a while, it was a running joke between us, that we had a wedding date but he hadn't officially proposed yet. Last week, his parents came to visit us from Pennsylvania, and they all took a trip to the LA diamond district (which I sort of suspected, but of course he denied the whole thing ). Last week, I had a really bad week, so KappaStarboy suggested we go to Disneyland on Sunday for some cheer.
At Disneyland, there are two smaller bridges on either side of Sleeping Beauty Castle. One is next to the Snow White waterfall, the other looks over the "moat" under the castle and a little pond. We stopped on the second bridge to look at the ducks and swan on the pond, and he turned said to me "Sweetie, I love you very much, and you're good to me, so what I want to know is..." and he got down on one knee and pulled out the ring box and opened it "...will you marry me?" So what else could I say besides "Yes, yes I will."
The ring is absolutely gorgeous. He did a good job
Afterward, the afternoon parade was ending, and Cinderella and Prince Charming had stopped right by us, so we had our picture taken with them. For dinner, he took me to the Blue Bayou, the restaurant on Pirates of the Caribbean.
I'm looking forward to planning the wedding and spending my life with a great guy who laughs at all my jokes, even when he thinks they're terrible.

Actually, I got married this summer. We were engaged in April of 2001. We had gone ring shopping, so I knew it was coming. I leftone of my rings at his parents' house when we were over there swimming and he was all like, "Oh yeah, when I come over I'll remember to bring you your ring". So he got to my apartment and said "Do you want your ring?" and I said, yeah (keep in mind, while he was driving over, I had done my nails...anticipating this outcome). So then he started in with "You know that I love you...I want to spend the rest of my life with you..." and then he just took the ring out of his pocket and opened it, and it was the one we had picked. We were sitting on the couch and Who Wants to be a Millionaire was on the TV...then I asked, so where is the ring I left over there! ('cause it's a ring that matches one that my bio sister also has) and he gave me that one too.
Then we went to eat Mexican food and have drinks, and then to show my parents.

YAY!!!! Congratulations! I know this has been a long time in coming, but I'm happy for you that its official. Can't wait to see the ring.
As for my proposal story, my husband was visiting me in Buffalo in January between semesters (now THAT is true love!). We went out to a very romantic dinner and ate by the fireplace. He looked so nervous, but I didn't know why. (I was sure he was going to pop the question over Spring Break, when I was going to visit him in L.A.)
Instead of eating dessert, he suggested that we grab some Ben and Jerry's, go home and watch the Golden Globe awards. He was working for Dreamworks at the time, and "Saving Private Ryan" was up that year, so I figured he wanted to go home to cheer for the home team.
We went home, and I was gearing up for a night of cuddling and TV watching when he started lighting candles everywhere and told me that he had my Valentine's Day gift. He said he wanted to give it to me early, since we wouldn't be together that day.
He handed me a little gift-wrapped box, and inside it was a beautiful blank journal. I opened it up, and on every single page was an "I love you because..." with a different reason on each one. I was so touched.
I finally got to the last page of the journal, and it said, "I love you for all these reasons and more. I can't wait for the day that you will be my wife. Will you marry me?"
I thought he was kidding and I started to giggle. But then I looked up, and there he was, down on his knee with the ring box open. I was so stunned that I just sat there and stared at him. Then he finally asked,"Well? Will you marry me?" I was still so shocked that I only nodded in agreement.
So I tease him all the time, "I never said YES, you know!!!!"
Despite that little detail, it was a perfect evening, a perfect wedding, and I'm glad to tell you all that we are a very happy old married couple!

I did the same thing, except I bought the diamond and let her pick out the setting after the fact.
We had been riding the rides all day long, and I could never get her to go toward the castle. I almost had to drag her over there! When we finally got to it, I dropped down on one knee and popped the question.
Congrats!

Aw, I love hearing all the proposal stories. Here's mine:
Like KappaStargirl, we had the church and hall reserved before we were engaged. Come to that, we also bought (and subsequently renovated) a townhouse before we were engaged! Although it was unspoken, I pretty much knew he was going to propose on our trip to Europe last December...I just didn't know where or when.
Well, we get to Paris and after checking into our hotel, decide to go out for a walk. We end up at the Champs-Elyses and go up to the Arc de Triomphe. It was my second time to Paris, his first, so he was doing all the oohing and ahing while I just watched him enjoying the sights.
So we're walking around the top of the Arc when suddenly he stops. So, I stop. He then takes out a handkercheif. Now, the day before, he had borrowed it from my dad. At the time, I thought that was wierd (Mr RedRose NEVER uses a handkerchief) but decided not to say anything it somehow figured into his proposal plans.
Anyway, back to the Arc. He pulls out the hankie, at which point I think to myself "Oh, I guess I was wrong...I guess he's going to blow his nose." I ask him what it's for. He says "This? It's for this..." and he sets it down on the cold, wet ground, kneels down on it, and proposes.
Needless to say, it was a magical moment! Now, everytime I see an image of the Arc, I think of us. Also, we love to travel, so for our wedding (which is in less than FOUR WEEKS! EEK!) we're giving leather luggage tags embossed with the Arc de Triomphe for favors. Our tables will have names of cities (instead of numbers), so you'll pick up your luggage tag and head off to Rio or London, or whever.

Congratulations!!
Mr. aephi alum and I were walking back from Boston to Cambridge over the Mass. Ave. bridge. We got to the 180 Smoot mark (about halfway across) and suddenly I noticed he wasn't walking beside me any more - he was down on one knee, offering me his class ring and proposing!
He did it on the spur of the moment... he'd decided to propose, and he was trying to come up with some terribly romantic way to do it, but he decided he couldn't wait He still jokes that if I had said anything other than yes, I would have found myself in the river!
At my sorority's next chapter meeting, we had a candle lighting, and for the rest of the semester I couldn't go to chapter without my sisters accosting me and demanding to see the ring! (We picked out the ring together, but it had to be sized, so it was about 2 months later when I finally got it.)
(edited for spelling)

I Love this thread!! Unfortunately I don't have a story to share, but I am such a romantic dreamer that I could read about "how we met," proposal and wedding stories all day... I am a big TLC fan if you can't tell
Keep them coming!

My story's kinda funny! Here goes:
My husband Art and I were looking for rings for a year and half (he's really picky and wanted something original and amazing for me!!!) During that time we moved 3 times. Anyway, so in Sept 2000, we decide that we're gonna get married....still no ring. We go home for Christmas, book the hall, meet with the officiant, get the bridesmaid's dresses, etc.
In March 2001, still no ring. Art does some SERIOUS thinking....he doesn't wanna get married right now (it didn't feel right, him not proposing! He wanted a surprise proposal and didn't like the stress). That's okay, no problems here...I just made sure he still wanted to marry me!!!
I go home in April 2001 with plans to get a job and return in August as an international student. I didn't get a job for 1 1/2 months, therefore I didn't save much money. After lots of talking, we realize that the only options we have is for me to stay in Halifax and go to school.....or get married! This happens in July.
So now we're back to getting married....still no ring obviously (the plan was decided over the phone since he was still in Florida!) We picked October 20 as our wedding date, I booked everything, made the plans!
The last week in August Art comes home to visit me for a long weekend. I finally know I'm gonna get my e-ring (he had it in his pocket the WHOLE time!) I thought he would do it the night of his surprise birthday party.....at the club where we had our first date and kiss. He decides not too, cause he thought I looked to drunk (I wasn't...just tired!)
The next night, we went to Chinatown....the restaurant he took me to Valentine's Day 98...when he asked me to be his girlfriend. He was gonna do it there, but during dinner we got to talking about my family and it got depressing (bad stuff was happening with my aunts). So he drives to the beach, thinking we'll take a walk on the beach (it was a full moon that night!!)....only the gates are locked and we can't get anywhere near it!
SO then we end up going to this cheezy tourist thing.....a statue of a moose in this place called Cow Bay, NS. We get outside, in the moonlight and he tells me to close my eyes. He put the ring on my finger and said "Honey, I love you. Will you marry me?"....I opened my eyes and said "NO!!! You're not on your knee!!!"
He got on his knee and asked again....I said yes that time!
He left back to Florida the next day....came back 2 months later and we got married!!! And we've never been happier....especially knowing that I'm legally allowed to stay in the US!!!

My fiance and I had been talking about getting engaged for probably 2 years when we finally did it. We were at Disney World in Florida (our first "real" vacation together.) Apparently everyone in the world but me knew he was going to do it while we were there. The actual event was no big deal...he was just kinda like "I know we've been kicking the idea around for awhile, so I thought we should make it official." (We are NOT the romantic type ). He had a ring on layaway here at home, but wanted to propose on vacation, so he went to a jewelry store in Orlando and bought a very inexpensive ring to use. When we got home, I decided to keep the inexpensive ring that he used to propose...sentimental value and all. The wedding band we want don't really go with a solitare anyhow. As for our wedding, we want to go away and do it on the beach somewhere...Jamaica or Hawaii, maybe.
Oh, and as for "how we met"....it was a blind date!!! A mutual friend set it in motion. The first time we talked on the phone, we totally hit it off and talked for like 3 hours. (That night, my friend jokingly said "You guys are going to get married!!"....little did she know!) Our first date was Theta Formals, and as they say, the rest is history!
