Informal Recruitment: When should I expect to hear back?

Hi Everyone!
Like the title says I went to an informal recruitment event at one of my school's sororities. It ended late last night, and I was wondering when you all thought I should hear back. One of the girls said Friday mid-day at the latest as their bid day ceremony is in the early evening. She also added she didn't want to promise anytime, but this sounded like it was a little too long of a time. I just wanted your imput.

Thanks so much,
&

Contact your Panhellenic (Greek Life) office and check if they have timeframes regarding when you should know.

Is the whole rush informal? If so,.that doesn't sound long at all. Remember classes are going on.

Only a few chapters had to do spring recruitment. This one in particular had two event (I went to both), and had about 40ish girls go through and were taking in between 10-15 girls. Thanks for the imput though! I thought it would be faster than that, but I guess maybe not. I'll post an update here if I hear anything!

I don't think the Greek office would be much help. The girl who gave me this info was the recruitment chair. The only rule regarding bids is they have to be accected in a certain time and can't be given before a certain time.

^^ This is awesome. It means your school is trying to get all chapters on equal footing and taking some of the pressure off PNMs that are looking at multiple chapters. Just hang tight until tomorrow.

With informal recruitment (COB), the only timeframe is of the chapter's choosing. If you haven't heard from them by Friday at 6 p.m., I'd assume that you weren't getting a bid. At least right now.

They may be handing out some bids, waiting for response, then handing out more. Unfortunately there isn't really a scenario where you can ask what's up so you will just have to be patient and eventually accept no answer as no. But not quite yet.

It does depend. Every school and organization is different.

When I went through informal the final time, one organization had a few scheduled events, and let those who were not being offered a bid know the evening that the final event ended by telephone call.

I'd also participated in informal for another organization at the same time. With them, I met two sisters for coffee and we chatted and enjoyed our drinks. I didn't hear about not being offered a bid until over a week later, after they'd held their pledge ceremony for those who chose to accept their bids. I believe that I received a call.

See I'm wondering if they are going to tell those who didn't get a bid anything. I just want to know. I haven't heard of anyone hearing anything back yet, so hopefully I'll hear something soon.

You probably won't hear anything if you are not extended a bid. That sucks, but it's an unpleasant conversation to have, and most people just avoid it.

That said, if the event was Tuesday night, there is no reason to think that Friday is "too long" of a time. The chapter has to get together and make decisions, and it can take a few days to sort everything out. I know it's tense, but do your best not to think about it until tomorrow.

They asked for both a phone and email so I was thinking girls with bids would get called and those who didn't would get emails, maybe? Like a "thank you for showing interest in our chapter but unfortunately yadda yadda"

Yeah, I just figured it would be quicker. I don't know why. I think I'll take a no-call, no-email by tomorrow at noon as a no bid. I'll keep everyone posted though.

UPDATE: They posted a photo on IG about recruitment, girl commented, saw she got a bid yesterday. Taking this as I am not going to be a part of this sorority. Thank you all so much.

I guess the question now is for advice. Do you guys think I should try formal recruitment in the fall? I'll be a second year in Junior standing. I just don't know. I went through fall and ended up with one house that I couldn't see myself in, and now this happened and this was a house I wanted. What are your thoughts?

I think if you don't, you will never get a bid. So give it a try...and remember, there are all kinds of women in a chapter. You won't meet all of them - and click - during recruitment. Keep an open mind. VERY open. And it's on;y for 2 years - you'll be an alum the rest of your life and have sisters wherever you go.
